Lots of underbody noise?

07redMustang -> Lots of underbody noise? (4/30/2008 5:51:03 AM)

Okay this is my first rear wheel drive car so I'm not sure if this is normal or not. When I put the car into reverse (auto tranny) the car seems to make an awful lot of noise and it sounds like it's coming from the drive shaft rather then the gears. It doesn't sound like a whine though like most people claim it sounds more like a grumble....it's hard to explain. I notice this everytime I back out of the driveway and that's the only time. I'm not sure if it does it in drive or not but it does it everytime I back out of the driveway. Is this normal or should I have it checked? Also my car is a convertable so maybe I'm just hearing more noises then I'm used to. I will try to get a sound clip of it if I can.

Okay tap tap tap hand on the side of my face not sure why no one is talking to you but your car should not make any awful lot of noise when backing up. I would take it back to the dealership and ask them to look into it. it should make the same sound when in drive but it is not so I is not a normal operation sound is it grumble or is it a grumple noise? are you sure it is not like grum chicka boomble. Just joking with you. Forgive me I’m just board with all the Exhaust muffler tune posts. kind of nice to see something new I do think I would take it in to the dealership for a check up if you are a man I might look under the car first to see what it rubbing like on the drive shaft. If you are a girl and are blond please do not put the car in reverse and get under the car to look at what is making the noise. Sorry for poking fun as I said I’m board Welcome to the forum it is a fun place and all of the people here a nice. grumble grumble grumble hum don't have a clue!!!

There should be minimal amounts of noise associated with
reverse but not as much as you describe. Take her in and
get her checked out at the stealership asap. Little problems
turn into big problems if gone properly undiagnosed and left
to fester like an open wound. [:o]
