Anyone know how hard this would be to do yourself? I've never taken calipers off before but I really really like how painted calipers look. How much do you think it would cost me to have done at a shop?

I've never taken calipers off before but I really really like how painted calipers look. How much do you think it would cost me to have done at a shop? jmac72187 04-30-2008, 08:46 AM Duplicolor makes kits that you can use yourself. I think they are about $20-30 a kit and you don't have to remove the caliper. If I were personally going to do it, I would remove the calipers, prep them and use high temp paint and clear coat on them. Just remember that you will most likely need to repaint them after so many miles because of the wear and tear that they go through. amrcnidyot 04-30-2008, 10:51 AM i had the duplicolor paint on mine for about 35k and it held up great. Margarita Girl 04-30-2008, 12:35 PM I used the Duplicolor kit. Comes with brake cleaner, paint and brush. I have a steady hand and painted mine, one at a time, on the car with no trouble. http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w80/RI99CMH/P1000359-1.jpg Doommaker 04-30-2008, 03:24 PM That's awesome I'm gonna have to look into that, thanks guys. britt21 04-30-2008, 03:26 PM ive been thinkin about painting mine for a while what color what look the best? Doommaker 04-30-2008, 03:36 PM Well I want red on a black Mustang. On a yellow one though hmm not sure. Maybe just yellow? britt21 04-30-2008, 03:38 PM do you think yellow on yellow would look good? Doommaker 04-30-2008, 03:43 PM I think it would. Red would stand out too much I think. 99 GT vert 04-30-2008, 03:48 PM i work with a guy that has a yellow car with black wheels and has his caliper painted yellow and it looks good Doommaker 04-30-2008, 03:56 PM Yeah If your car is the one in the sig I'd have to say yellow. Should look nice. britt21 04-30-2008, 04:26 PM yes my car is in the sig and yeah, red wouldnt look good. im thinkin yellow too... since i have black wheels, yellow calipers should really stand out agaisnt the black. Dan04COBRA 04-30-2008, 04:50 PM Red would make your car look like the ketchup & mustard car. Every city has atleast one of'em. Go yellow! britt21 04-30-2008, 05:46 PM yellow it is! ps..ketchup and mustard sound/look DISGUSTING together [:'(] Doommaker 05-01-2008, 01:59 AM Lol, never could figure out why it wouldn't look good but ketchup/mustard explains it. Go yellow for sure. Favre4TD 05-02-2008, 02:54 AM +1 on the duplicolor kit , easy peasy. I left the calipers on, drove thru the entire winter up here and they still shine when they are clean. 06Redfire3V 05-02-2008, 10:59 AM I used the G2 kit, it's amazing! SuperNac 05-02-2008, 12:45 PM I used the duplicolor kit. Got it for like 18 bucks at Advanced Auto. Took about an afternoon while taking in some bud light and watching the race. Not too hard to do at all, most fun part was trying to find where to put my jack stands!!! local://upfiles/93562/DF382325CA8E428AAD15573B4588A185.jpg Ultimeas 05-03-2008, 10:35 PM I'll be painting mine sometime over the next week, I'm putting new rotors and pads on anyway, so why waste time? I'm doing mine orange, because its my fav color, I've never seen anyone with orange-painted calipers, and im just tired of red and yellow and the like. 4.0 Stang 05-03-2008, 10:41 PM I also used the duplicolor kit. It was about 15 bucks at autozone. It took me about 4-5 hours too do because I had to use the jack from the car and could only do one wheel at a time. But it turned out pretty good and the paint has been holding up good. Just make sure to put a couple coats of paint on each caliper. buster 05-06-2008, 09:58 AM I did mine without taking off the wheels (yes I'm lazy) with Duplicolor. They look fine TPony 05-06-2008, 10:56 AM Without taking off the wheel? You are my hero....there's no way I could have done it without taking off my wheels....anyway, this was an easy mod.... sowaxeman 05-07-2008, 09:43 AM Another +1 for Duplicolor. I did mine during my winter clean-up. Took a couple hours at best while leaving the calipers on. I did three coats total and added some Saleen decals from xenonmods.com http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d113/sowaxeman/My%20Saleen/Picture009.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d113/sowaxeman/My%20Saleen/Picture015.jpg buster 05-07-2008, 09:46 AM ORIGINAL: TPony Without taking off the wheel? You are my hero....there's no way I could have done it without taking off my wheels....anyway, this was an easy mod.... I'll touch em up next time I take off the wheels, but like i said, i'm lazy and its a bigger job than people think in your driveway |
