I figure this will be a good place to ask.  My friend is looking into buying something luxury + speedy.  (I let him drive my car and he got the speedy bug).. he used to have an older acura integra that was turbo'd.. He was looking at an audi TT.. I just recommended a bmw 325i.. I think his price range is likely maxxed around 40k but maybe he can handle 50k..  any suggestions for him?

My pics:
Slightly used IS350 (have run mid 13s, 300+hp)
Older E55 AMG
E46 M3
New 335i if he wants to push that price envelope
Used CTS-V (I've seen some on Autotrader in the 25k range now)
Twin turbo S4
Newer Acura TL Type S

I mean you could go on and on.  There are so many used and a couple of new options within that price range that would fit the bill.

He wants something brand new? If so he can either go with more muscle then luxury and go with any of the SRT vehicles. or prob get a vette for that price.(im canadian so i dont really know wat cars cost in american just shootin here. or if hes more into the luxury side of it then id agree an audi tt or 350z maybe a lexus is 250/350.. bmw 335i dunno if there under 50..

those are some excellent suggestions.. I'll keep talking to him to see what he really wants and what his max price will be (I think i'll have to send him a link to a payment calculator for what he can afford).. I'm pretty sure he was talking, mercedes, bmw... etc.. not neccesarily sedans.. but, hard to find a fast luxury car in his price range that is a coupe i think.. I think he would prefer something new (or at most 2 years old).  He was even talking about an evo but that doesn't seem luxury to me at all..  but if i can direct him towards some nice comfortable cars he'll probably ditch the Evo idea after sitting in it..

oh.. and i think the 350z probably wont seem to nice too him after sitting in a 335i..

Payments are going to be probably a little over $700/month on a used car @ $35k... so do the math from there hehe.

Don't take that verbatim, I don't have a financial calculator in front of me, but that's coming from my friends who both have $35k car payments on their new Tahoes

By the way $700+ for a car payment is a lot IMO.  My buddy has an 07 Tahoe and his wife has an 07 335i and their car payments are more than their mortgage!

http://www.statefarm.com/learning/calc/carloan.asp  hehe, there is one.. works pretty well.. yeah close to 700/month if you have no downpayment and can't get below 7% for a 5 month loan..

This piggy backs off of another recent post I had.  I don't know if he wants new or used, but I would take a nice used Caddy CTS-V.

If he wants new, perhaps the BMW 335i.  He can probably manage one of those for around $40K give or take.

With that price range I'd get a 335i.  I like the Audi TT's, theyr cool cars, but if they cost 40-50 grand its not worth it

335i or 300C SRT-8's probably aren't terrible. Both are low 13 cars and have room for some modding.  I know my mom's charger r/t daytona has a lot of cool stuff and looks pretty nice on the inside (except a lot of people who by the car would have preferred a wood trim dashboard), so the 300C must have a nice interior since it's a charger srt-8's luxury model. Go 335i if you want good mpg's and 300C SRT-8 if you want a luxury car with muscle car sound.

There are a lot of options out there.. what exactly is he looking for in a vehicle aside from luxury and performance?  Is he looking for a sedan of sorts or a coupe?  What about suv's?  What are the guidelines?  I always thought the 200x Thunderbirds were nice little two seaters.  Caddy's are always worth looking into as well.  He could also check out the BMW 1 series.. don't know much about it, but it's got some pep behind it.

An E46 M3 can be had for about 25k if you look in the right places. Tell him to look into one of those or he can check out a c5 vette or the srt8 300c. All of those would be the right combo of luxury and performance.

i love when people mention 14 second cars when someone is looking for a new luxury performance car...

and late generation thunderbirds? he said luxury and performance, not "my friend is a 55 year old woman"...

ive driven a 300C srt-8, and it was a nice car inside, and pretty quick.  however, if hes looking to spend upwards of 40-50g for a luxury performance car, he shouldnt be looking anywhere except for BMW.
