2004 GT Vs. 2001 Honda S2000

Welp I have this kid who just challenged me to a race. He drives an s2k. And well apparently he brags about how its faster then my GT. He put a catback exhaust on it so I don't know. Well he wants to go from a dig. My mustang is an auto and his is a stick . I also didn't do much to the stang but ran a 14.5 in a 1/4 on my 2nd pass. It had BBK pulleys in it during that run thats it. Recently I just reflashed the ecu with the diablo tuner factory upgrade. And so far I'm waiting to get these 3.90s installed. I also have an H pipe for it but both those 2 key parts aren't in the car and are just sitting in my bedroom floor.[:@] I'm pretty sure I can see 14.4 with the reflash now perhaps or squeeze a 14.3... But what do you guys think? should I just wait to get the gears and H pipe and murder him? or can I beat him now?? His is a 2001...

If you expect low to mid 14s out of your car I'd say it's a drivers race.

Thanks blue^ Very knowledgeable. What do these cars run stock anyone know?

I think an intake/tb should do the trick BUT i really want these gears on. And I have too look for some sensors for the H pipe otherwise this damn check engine light will come on :*(.

But if anyone knows what these cars run stock in a 1/4 2001 be real helpful thanks!

It could potentially go either way. With gears and the h pipe you're chances will be better, but still not a garunteed win.

I raced one ngiht, twice, idk what year it was, probably around 01.  I saw him behind me at a light, i went in second n went slow till he got in the other lane n saw him commin n i punched it and we were neck and neck until 100 then we caught the next light.  We were both like what the hell you got in that thing. 

Anyways im not the greatest stick driver yet but the hardest part for me is launching it. We went at the light and he was in teh merge lane, i told him if it was real close i would let him get infront of me so i wouldnt make him crash for the W lol

We take off at the light and my **** went completely sideways, i thought i was gonna hit his car, anyways i finally hooked up n he was right on my passenger side door. I  had him but he kept rolling when he shoulda merged and i let off so he could get in the lane

Anyways if i raced n didnt dump it liek a dumbass i shoulda had a way better lead. Those are light which really help them launch...

Motor trend got a 13.8 out of the club racer edition recently. I've never seen them break out of the mid 14s though in person. Gears and exhaust work should give you the advantage.

ive heard a HONDATA tune will make miracles for very tall engine coolant (VTEC) cars, are u sure he does not have one of those!!!

My friend has an 01 S2K and we have raced a few times.  With your mods is a drivers race for sure. My mods are in my sig and my friend has an intake and catback on his S2k. We raced twice from a dig.  I won the first race by a car and I lost the second one by a car lol.  I got loose in 2nd gear on the second race.  We also went from a 40 roll and I had him by a half of a car till 110 mph and then he started pulling away so I slowed down(not a fan of street racing).  So to sum it up, get a good launch and don't break it loose in second gear and you should take him by a car or so.

Depends how good a driver he is.  If he's good I could definetly see him winning.  If he's OK then id say slight edge to you.  If he sucks then youll crush.  Race him now an see what happens, if you lose just race him again later too

It really depends now. I think it's going to be a drivers race. If he threw on that exhaust without a tune he is deffinatly loosing power. Even with a tune, he's probably not making more than 5 more horsepower. S2ks come from the factory very, very finely tuned. Doing boltons and trying to get horsepower out of them is like trying to squeeze water from a rock. I read an article where Honda said they couldn't get anymore horsepower out of it without going FI.  Not sure which model year they were talking about though, but they were comparing it with the NISMO 350Z. I raced my buddys s2k 6 times one night in my Z ( low 14 second car) the first two times we were dead even. One time he pulled on me, the next I pulled on him, then we swapped cars, and I pulled on him in the S, the next race he pulled on me with the Z. Drivers race I guess.

Hmmm....well I mean its just a pullied gt 2004 with a diablo tune so nothing spectacular. I'll run him this weekend and hopefully I'll do ok. Its just a cat-back exhaust from what I am hearing nothing fantastic. If I get this intake and Tb on I think I'll take him np.

Well today I ran into one of his s2k crew members lol

He comes up and is like "You gonna race blain? hes going to rape you"

I'm like "i AIN'T worried , imma put the dick on both him and you if you want it" so he drives and 03 s2k. Factory, we're on the road Im doing about 20 mph in gear "1" and the car infront of us turn and there is no cars ahead of us for now...we HIT it, and I started to pull a car ahead of him instantly, then when I think I'm about to terminate his ass a car pulls infront and I slow down, he does the vtec drive by and super over rev's his **** lol....and when I mean super I mean these cars are hard as hell to over rev and he accomplish that np. Now I think to myself "hmmm I wonder if we would of kepted going from a 20 mph roll could I have gotton him?" Than I say to myself "I really need to get these gears on " so this weekend I'm putting the gears on next chance I get. Wish me luck guys, I think I should ask him to go from a 20 mph if thats any good, but some people tell me it ain't good for an auto mustang...[&:]

I wouldn't take him from a 20 roll. High redline plus short gears equals death for you unless you get geared.

You'd prolly have a better chance from a dig being RWD with a torquey V8. The s2K engine revs really high, so it may not be the easiest thing to launch, even though it is RWD.

Definetly go from a dig.  S2000's have no torque, which means your gonna take him off the line.  Goin from a roll just gives him an advantage

I'd say it will be a drivers race as we stand now with the edge to him if he can drive.  Get the gears, h-pipe and new tune and I'm gonna give it to you.

From what I hear(this from a S2000 owner/friend of mine) you have to launch the living **** out of it to get it moving from a dig.  Says even like a 5000 launch usually results in a bog.  I don't see many people willing to launch more agressive than that so from a dig as your car sits right now it should be a close race.

From a roll he'll more than likely get you.  I ran my said friend from a 40 roll and the results were inconclusive.  My car was too loud to hear the honks(not lying lol) so we'd just punch it when we saw the other guy move.  This was with me off the bottle and it was pretty close with me perhaps putting at most a car length on him.
