Would we win? United States or China. Today in history class I had a weird feeling we would go to war with china over oil. China is demanding more oil and the U.S gas prices are rising like no other. Please no flaming, just posts your thoughts. If we were ever to go to war with china, I think we would beat them pretty bad with our technology. They do have a way bigger army but their poorly trained and equipped.

we would give them a woopin because our army is far superior. our airforce is stacked. we have planes that you can barely see, submarines, you name it we got it.

iraq and china does not count a a 2 front war. we arnt at war with iraq, we are at war with terrorists that reside in iraq. iraq is such a small small small conflict that you shouldnt even include it in a war with china. if we did go to war we would have a draft, and we would have 2 million people in the army within a year. I mean in Vietnam we had a million men in country at once.

i hate to be the one to point this out but China's standing army is much larger than ours could probably ever be. they have like 4 times our population.

and look where those 1 million men got us... we went in to spread democracy... came out with a bunch of pine boxes filled with boys.
the same thing is happening overseas... we pour in millions of dollars and hundreds of men, and I haven't heard of any successes...
quite frankly I think it's ****.... God bless our soldiers, I have friends and family that fight and have fought... but this **** is getting out of hand.
with china it would probably result in a nuclear war and guess what? we are the leading producer of nuclear weapons. we just sit here and fire off missile after missile after missile at them. the could do the same but we can shoot down any missiles fired at our country.
also it does not matter the size of hte army.

mistake in vietnam was that we faught the war completely wrong. we used a method called the body count where the theory was that we would kill the enemy faster than they could replenish their forces. turned out this was wrong because we killed more than 1 million nva and vietcong.
i also used that example to show how fast we can build up an army.

Gotta define victory. If by "win" you mean take millions and millions and millions of casualties and watch the country as we know it destroyed, while killing 300 million chinese... sure, we would win.

You don't think China can shoot down missiles? Don't ever underestimate a world power like China. No body f**ks with them for a reason. If it wasn't China loaning us money, we probably be getting our asses kicked in the war we are in. China has everything we have, most likely more. Their Army dwarfs ours and the have enough $$$ take take the fight to us in the air ground or sea. The US and China won't fight eachother though...do so will obliterate each country...Besides, we have enough problems on our hands as it is.
Total war is not what it was before nuclear weapons. We are a LONG long way from the minie ball. If you are in the services, you should know that. At no time in the history of mankind have we been able to basically destroy the world in 30-40 minutes. A massive nuclear exchange would do this. It would destroy our major cities, destroy our air, our water, our electronics. Satellites would fall from the sky, radioactive clouds would blanket the globe, and life AS WE KNOW IT would cease to exist.
So if THAT is what you are talking about, I see no winners. Only losers. Period.

We'd defeat China. Our military may be much smaller, but is vastly superior in capability and technology, as well as training and morale. Not to mention the fact our nuclear arsenel is vastly superior to their's, China barely has the capability to accurately strike the west coast of the US while we could take down their entire country in under 30 minutes. You also have to consider the economic implications, 60% or more of China's GNP comes from trade with the US. If war breaks out they would find their national income cut by more than half, and be unable to financially sustain a prolonged conflict. War is expensive.

the US government is in debt to itself. china does not have as much money as people think. if you know anything about how economies work then you will understand..
GDP meausre how big a countries economy is... now in 2007, our GDP was 4.5 times the amount of chinas. our economy is 4.5 times larger than chinas and china has what 4 times as many people??? thats pretty pathetic. our economy is 3 times larger than any other country on the planet. Chinas army is nowhere near advanced as the United states. China does not have the anti missile program that the united states has because we are the only ones with it!

BTW, they have approx 20 CSS-4 (as we call them) with a yield of 4 MT and a range of 13,000 KM. That is enough range to hit us, and check out this interesting damage page;
China certainly is not on our level, military wise, in almost any department. However they have a LOT of men, and a certain dedication that western powers, with the whole "Life is sacred" background, have... check out the crazy Japanese in WWII. A war with China would be terrible, and as I already said, no winners when 40 million Americans lie dead and dying. Let's try to avoid it at all costs.
BTW, an excellent book; Red Storm Rising. Anyone who enjoys military stuff would LOVE it.

Economy has nothing to do with population. It is pretty foolish for you to think that we know what other countries have. The truth is, WE DON'T KNOW. You say China is no where near as avanced as the US, thats the same attitude that has this countries economy struggling. America will have it's hands full in a war with China. Besides, if we attack them, North Korea will step in a nuke the **** out of us, because they have been wanting to for a while..
