Are you wondering if the war in Iraq say is skewing the American number down?
Not sure if people abroad would make up a big enough number to really affect the stat in any meaningful way.
Grrrrr......dang hijacker.....I guess that makes you an eterrorist
What I really wonder about is how the huge number of illegals being seen affects the numbers.
03, I know people die waiting for approval in this country. Most of the bad taste in my mouth regarding the healthcare in Canada comes from my Sis who is an RN in Toronto. I'm guilty of forming an opion based on heresay and not hard research
are the life expectancy numbers for all USA/Canadian citizens across the world (strange, yes), or just within the borders?

it's not just the war in iraq, but i do think that our military involvement does have an impact on that number. and to me, a difference of less than two years doesn't really mean much. and are the numbers posted just an average of a few years ago?
I hear you, but two years isn't exactly chump change. Hopefully sombody can answer your question directly...
Two years may not seem like much, but combined with all the other statistics it makes it hard to argue that they have such a horrible healthcare system, and when the US is below them its hard to argue that we have the best healthcare system.

Yeah, I understand their system is not perfect, and neither is ours. I am just really bitter when an 80yr old man comes in to get a script filled for eye drops and he hands me a Laborers union insurance card that pays $2.50 on his $100 eye drops. To me that is unacceptable.
I just dont want you to dismiss their system as being horrible, I honestly believe we should give it a chance here in the US.

yeah...as to the original posting...i was never one for gun control and not just cause i have an arsenal at my house...its cause gun control doesnt really mean squat to the average criminal anyway...guys like you and me jump through all the hoops for guns....no thug ever bought his gun legally...so regulating guns doesnt mean squat to the bad guys...it only makes it harder for good guys to protect themselves from the bad

just thought id put my 2 cents in from the original post.
Why not have back ground checks on the buyers and there relatives, and look at medical records and age limit 21 and older.
We do have background checks for handgun purchases, I don't think it applies to long guns. Why 21?? An 18 year old can vote and kill people for our government. Check out relatives? I think that might be a bit of overkill and not fair to someone who has scumbag family members. Are you going to deny someone based on his/her family? They do currently check for mental illness.

You just said the number one thing that Liberals, for whatever reason, are incapable of figuring out. The common sense part of it is astounding, yet no one on the left gets it. Gun laws only hurt law abiding citizens who are not committing any crime...thats it.

Give it a chance? Or FORCE those (as I believe Clinton or Obama put it) to purchase those who are uninsured to purchase it?
Personally, when I graduate from college in December, I would rather have the option to shop around for whatever healthcare I would like until I get hired as a teacher (and get everything) instead of being told exactly what I have to get on a national system.
*shrugs*
Personal responsibility,,i dont know..maybe that doesnt apply in this circumstance, but i'd like to think it does

You think insurance is free when you get a job? You already pay for the poor and disabled's healthcare, why not allow for everyone's healthcare to be paid for?

Says the guy who is going to be teaching a government-supplied curriculum in a publicly-funded school to people who are mandated to attend classes. That is rich.
If it works for education - and I assume you think it's a good idea to have an educated population - why is it a bad idea to have a universally healthy population?
