View Full Version : Did not get my job
03mustgt 04-29-2008, 09:29 AM I was in an application process with a department here in my state. Made it through the written exam, interview, physical ability tests, polygraph, background investigation, and then i got an e-mail today saying that I was not selected to proceed on. ****ty thing is they cut down the class size from 120 to 75. I was in the final 200 when I was cut. Still not too bad for starting out with 6,000 applicants. Well, guess i will just have to apply again.

Adam03GT 04-29-2008, 10:18 AM You make some good money as a state trooper?

i dunno about where the op is applying but here in the tennakee during training you get base salary which is a little over 32,000 a year (i think) not much but not bad since cost of living is so low around here
drhoward 04-29-2008, 10:26 AM I think gas station attendents make more than that around here[8D]

36,000 while in the academy. 38,000 while on probation, 40,000 when you are a trooper.

Law Enforcement is def not a job you do for the money.
Adam03GT 04-29-2008, 11:06 AM Something i have never understood is why teachers and cops are so underpaid.
Like howard said you can make upwards of 65k+ at local gas stations when the people teaching our children and the ones protecting us get half that?

How is that?
mattlowe01 04-29-2008, 01:48 PM hmmm...
the town next to my town starts cops out at 75k, after 4 years they make 100k, after 10 years there at 150k. The chief of police makes 300k.
go figure, right?

[&:] that is a lot of money for a cop.
KTownGT 04-29-2008, 02:14 PM Yea matters where you get a job. I've heard about 50 starting down where I live then a pay raise to 75 after a few years.
dtkikols 04-29-2008, 03:10 PM here in jersey cops work four 12 hr shifts a week "on patrol". if they want they can work events and other stuff other times during the week, and that is where they reallybring in the $$. its not uncommon for cops around here to bring in 6 figures.

I'm going for OPD and they're the highest paid in the state and they don't even make that much.

Manahawkin, NJ. Barnegat cops (my town) are paid pretty well too.
my72mach 04-29-2008, 06:38 PM Hey OP just keep at it not everyone makes it in the first time around. And the PD's are always in a hire status. Not to mention unless you are in a poedunk town it takes forever for the process. For me it was a 6 month process......now I have two years on and in a couple more I will be making bigger bucks.:D:eek:
Good luck next time around.:)
