4000cc -> RE: Whats really stopping you from getting a GT? (5/5/2008 3:42:56 PM)

I have not read this entire thread so I'll just answer the original subject.

I don't know if the 05+ have fixed this or not, but the reason I did not get a 99 - 04 GT was the fact that some folks destroyed their thin aluminum heads when pulling out spark plugs. I read they strip out of the hole.

I also read by around 90k miles, many eroded their cam chain tensioners and the chain would slap around causing more damage.

I did not want to take a chance on these things as I keep cars a long time.  The mpg bothered me a bit also.

I bought an 01 v6 auto 3months ago.

i can honestly say that's the first time i've ever heard that.  there's folks on this forum alone with boosted/juiced new edge stangs with well over 100k miles.  [:)]

1. I only live once and nothing is ever promised tomorrow so why not buy the car of my dreams while im here?
I used to be one of those people who dreamed of owning a v8 with the 6ixer but...I cant take it any more. I cant take damn GT's, Mazda...even a damn saturn effing with me at the stoplight and me having trouble shutting them down.

If you can afford it and want the GT, then get it.   You're right....you only live once.   Oh...and by the way....life is short too.

Most people out there probably don't even know whether your car is a V6 or V8, but if it is bothering you....maybe it is time to make a move.

If winning the stoplight battles is important to you, then get the GT.   You still won't win them all, but you should do better.   I tend to be a bit gun-shy at a lot of stoplights, because of the frequency of drivers running red lights these days.

I'm probably one of the older guys in the sixer forum and I have a 98 V6.  I have a 98 V6 for one reason, it runs good.  No engine mods and only a few cosmetic upgrades and I'm perfectly happy with my car.  I grew up in the age of muscle cars so the V8 isn't that important to me anymore.  I've had a 69 Road Runner that came with the 383ci engine but I put a 440 six pack in it.  I've had a 1970 Camaro SS with a 350ci big block and some serious engine, tranny and rear end work done on it and I've had a Buick Skylark Custom Convertable which had a 327 chevy small block.  Then again, Sunoco 260 octane was only 65 cents a gallon.

I hear you.   I've had pony/muscle cars most of my life.  I had a 73 Mach 1 during the 73 Oil Embargo, and had V8s, right up until 90, when I got a 91 Eagle Talon TSi AWD (turbo 4).   Then I got my Z-28 and next came the Eclipse GT.   I like the V6 Mustang that I took over after my father died and have been enjoying it a lot.    Sure, it is down in power from my Z-28 and isn't even as quick as my Eclipse GT, but it is a great looking car and does everything I need it to do.     Sometimes, it's nice just to be able to be happy with what you have.   Plus, not having car payments is a good thing.

the only thing stopping me is insurance costs

meh.. if you ask around, insurance isn't that huge of a deal.  mustangman is trying to buy my 04 GT and it's actually CHEAPER than his v6 [&:]

yeah, my friend is getting a GT this week actually and he got a quote and his isnt bad, for having it on his dads name.. which i do also

but i was 16 when i got this car, so the GT for me last year would be a lot more than what my friends about to be paying at 19 years old

i know ill be getting a GT after this car, i just dont want to wait =[

crash -> RE: Whats really stopping you from getting a GT? (5/7/2008 12:18:34 PM)

Nothing is stopping me from gettina  GT cuz im skipping ahead to sumthing better. All GT's here in the yay are all beat on....but when I first got my sixxer it was because of a 16yr old and my high insurance bill. A GT was just out of the question..but now....i can get something more potent hehe

Mustang_princess -> RE: Whats really stopping you from getting a GT? (5/7/2008 12:56:32 PM)

ok yeah.
i have a sixer, and i love my car.my mom has a gt and i love it to.its not mine and im fine with that. On the part about not even touching a gt. its not the car it's the driver. You can do it if you beleive in yourself. Just go and get a few changes. Loose some weight [ delete the back seats would be a good choice at first ] and loose weight = more speed.
Just do research and see what all you can find. If you want a gt buy one if you want one for you. Dont buy one because people think you should have one rather than a sixer. you could always turn your sixer into a undercover gt.
GOOD LUCK

Unless your V6 has a lot of engine and driveline mods plus a good tune you won't even touch a GT.

Mustang_princess -> RE: Whats really stopping you from getting a GT? (5/7/2008 1:05:08 PM)

depends on the driver hun. everyone knows that. you should also.
some sixers stock can touch a stock gt. because of the drivers.
it wouldnt be as easy if the gt wasnt stock and the sixer was but it could be possible.
but its mostly the driver.

Um, not so much. Take ANY v6 to the track against a GT and the GT will beat it.

Mustang_princess -> RE: Whats really stopping you from getting a GT? (5/7/2008 1:09:32 PM)

no comment on that one.
but still its the driver of the car not the size of the engine.

RyansQuick6 -> RE: Whats really stopping you from getting a GT? (5/7/2008 1:18:27 PM)

Mine beats GT's at the track

Mustang_princess -> RE: Whats really stopping you from getting a GT? (5/7/2008 1:24:16 PM)

BWAHAHA.
yay. 'bout time i heard that.

That would have to be one messed up mentally challenged coma patient driver for the stock gt to lose to a stock v6.....

Mustang_princess -> RE: Whats really stopping you from getting a GT? (5/7/2008 1:29:11 PM)

haha exactly but still >.<
theres mentally challenged ppl who have gt's....some were im sure.

Perhaps so, but we are comparing vehicles stock for stock.

RyansQuick6 -> RE: Whats really stopping you from getting a GT? (5/7/2008 1:59:55 PM)

Oh ok lol

I actually did beat an S197 GT the first week I owned the car at HMP, completely stock. He left his traction control on and didn't know how to drive a stick lol

I'd LOVE to see a stock GT beat a stock Skyline...
Or even a 350Z...
They're both v6's...
And a driver CAN make a huge difference...
Hell...
I beat a heavily modded S2000 in the 1/8th mile last weekend in angleton...
His car shoulda blown mine away...
He just couldn't drive worth ****...
My car was even runnin bad...
It was really hot and humid that night...
