connor90 -> damn earthquakes!!! (4/28/2008 11:35:41 PM)

they're not big or anything but they keep me up.  just had 2 in the last 10 mins that were only about 3.0s but we've officially had 309 since friday night and a butt load before friday night.  one this morning woke me up at 4:30...theyre pissing me off.  what pisses me off even more are the people in my retarded town who act like the world is ending.  the biggest was a 4.7 and thats not even very big.  its all thats been on the news and its just getting really old.  more of an annoyance than anything.  my dad is real worried, i told him ill worry when they get into magnitude 5 and 6.  sorry, just had to vent.

damnit, just had another one when i was typing this.

*sits and seceretly hopes a big one doesnt hit*

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsus/Maps/US10/32.42.-125.-115.php

They're mostly just aftershocks from the previous larger one. Though they could be foreshocks to something larger. Don't feel bad though, I'm sitting in between 2 major faults, the San Andreas and the Garlock, and am only a few miles from a 3rd, the White Wolf, that leveled this town in '52. I definately remember the shaking we felt during the Loma Prieta and Northridge quakes.

RyansQuick6 -> RE: damn earthquakes!!! (4/29/2008 12:28:31 AM)

So is it fair to start ranting yet about all the people who are gonna need to be evacuated because they chose to live in an earthquake prone area, and not start leaving with the ground starting shaking for over 5 days? How much is this gonna cost the government? I know where there's a bunch of FEMA trailers if you guys need them, we're almost done with them.

I guess people down here in Louisiana are the only ones who can get hit by major natural disasters...

I am just waiting for yosemetie to decide to explode.

It will cover about 75% of the continental US in ash. Let's see FEMA take care of THAT one [:D]

That's Yellowstone. And yeah, it seems like a nice place until you realise it's one massive super-cauldera. On the bright side though, it'll kill so many people that FEMA won't have to worry too much about helping survivors in the immediate area. Immediate area being like a 500mi radius.

connor90 -> RE: damn earthquakes!!! (4/29/2008 12:58:49 PM)

well generally speaking when earthquakes come in groups usually its a big one followed by subsequent smaller ones but most are hovering around the 3-4 range.  like a 4.6 followed by a 3.8 followed by a 4.1 with 1-2s in between.  today hasnt been bad though, only felt a couple so far.  theres this kid from sweden in one of my classes and he's never felt an earthquake so he's freaking out.

dubarado -> RE: damn earthquakes!!! (4/29/2008 1:03:16 PM)

california will now become an island.... WOOOOO them and their silly laws.

MustangFanatic4 -> RE: damn earthquakes!!! (4/29/2008 1:06:08 PM)

I've never been in an Earthquake. Whats its like?

btw i've never seen a tornado either yet i live in Oklahoma[:D]

connor90 -> RE: damn earthquakes!!! (4/29/2008 1:12:55 PM)

well the ones we are having arent too bad...the floor just kinda moves from side to side a little and it shakes stuff up and knocks stuff off shelves.  its like your house is floating in water and a wave hits it.  either that or a giant comes over and just starts shaking it.  haha...

and holy crap...we're supposed to be having wind gusts of 90mph today.  dust storm warning too...they're just starting to pick up.

Here, I will start because I feel exactly about Louisiana as I will the west coast when they get their big ass earthquake.

To the west coast, if I were you I'd be selling my sh!t and getting my ass out of town so A) I don't get myself killed and B) so that I don't have to whine about not being warned about it and blaming whatever president is in office for not using Scotch tape to keep the fault from moving.

kthanxbi

MustangFanatic4 -> RE: damn earthquakes!!! (4/29/2008 1:21:16 PM)

Ok that would freak me the F out if i was in a actual earthquake.

Tornadoes just flat out scare the ****e out of me, you can always tell when its perfect for a tornado
it'll be pretty warm out and than 10 mins later it will get pretty chilly and its all dark out side and 30 mph winds start, im always looking out for wall clouds and trying to spot rotation.
Than it'll hail, my car is in the garage by now.  all of this mainly happens at night and happen to live 100 yards away from a siren[:@]

right now its tornado season

I dont know the whole deal but it sounds like its the states job to get it fixed or the cities.  I wouldnt live near in an area that had potential for hurricanes anyways.

connor90 -> RE: damn earthquakes!!! (4/29/2008 1:25:40 PM)

oh and i just read a study that said there is a 99% chance of a magnitude 7 or greater earthquake happening in southern california in the next 20 years...97% in northern california.

Well, based on when they started collecting data I'm pretty sure you guys are long over-due for a big one. I don't know by how many years, might even be decades, but I know it's some figure in that ballpark. Someone's gotta have a link.
