Recently took my car on a long (4000 mile) road trip and on about 4 occasions after driving on the interstate for several hours, the car would stutter or buck when entering a town. For instance, I exit the interstate and reach the first stop sign, going on my way I shift from 1-2 then at about mid rpms the car would hesitate for a second after applying the gas, then suddenly lurch. It seemed like there was a problem with the drive by wire system. During these incidents the cruise was still switched on, but obviously not set. The A/C was also off. No harm came of it, but it was disconcerting. Any idea what could be wrong? I have the 91 octane steeda canned tune, steeda CAI and UDPs.

This is the exact problem that occurs with the fuel pump TSB i think

Check the TSB link uptop, then make the trip to the dealer

What fixes that because I had it when I had my Brenspeed tune and once I got my custom tune with my Procharger it went away.

I browsed the TSBs but I could not find one that dealt specifically with the fuel pump.

Thanks

Thank you, that TSB desribed the problem exactly.
Hopefully the dealer will just believe me and do the work. I mean you can't drive for hours in order to simulate the problem.

i had the same problem. my car would bog going from 3rd to 4th mostly in mid rpm. thought it was the fuel pump but took it to dealer and found out it was actually the ignition coil. after that was replaced along with some electrical circuits the car went back to normal

I hope you have better luck than I did. My dealer wanted to keep it around for days waiting for some guy to show up (didn't know when) to check it out and not only that, they wanted to charge me over $400. I was well in my warranty too at the time (not anymore staring about a week ago, hit 36K). I told them hell no and I've been living with this problem since then. It only shows up every once and a while so I'm not worried.

You didn't complain or go to another dealer? How can they charge for anything in the warranty period?

I figured I'd rather do it myself since it's actually a pretty easy job and I didn't want to have to leave the car again and get a rental car. I might as well just buy the pump myself rather than having to pay for another rental car.

The service guy I dealt with was a rude idiot. I avoid him now every time I go in and things have been well now.

I have had this issue but it has been after the car has been sitting, either at home or work for a few hours, start it up and it bucks for a few seconds when I get going then smoothes out?

TSB ?

That sounds like the fuel pump TSB alright, my '06 did the same thing.  A couple of weeks ago I took it into one dealership who wouldn't do it because they couldn't duplicate the problem.  I took it to another they were much better and explained the whole TSB thing to me as well.  Basically it isn't like a recall.  They don't have to replace the fuel pump just because the TSB is out there.  The TSB is only a troubleshooting/diagnostic tool for the tech...basically the TSB's are lists of known high fail items and their symptoms and fixes.  I explained to the guy that I don't know how he could duplicate, but that I'd bought that car there and I hoped they'd take my word on it....he said they weren't supposed to do it if they couldn't duplicated it, but he'd talk to the tech....anyway they did the TSB.

Also, I've read some threads that have some confusion about TSB....if the car is out of warranty, TSB work isn't free.....it's not a recall.  So, if you have the problem and want to get it fixed for free, do it before the warranty runs out.

I need to take mine on long trip to see if the problem is fixed.
