I have an 88 LX and my radiator is shot so it is time for a new one. So I am wondering what size I should put in it. I believe that it has a 1 row in it right now and until recently I have not had any problems with overheating, but I was wondering if a 2 row would be a better choice. Would it be worth the extra money? The car is pretty much all stock and is my DD so I do not know if it would be worth while. Also, by putting in a 2 row, will it be too efficient during the winter so I will not have any heat going to my heater core? Right now I am looking at a cheap Transpro radiator from Autozone, does anyone have any experience with these? It has a lifetime warranty so I figure that I cannot go too wrong with it. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

That sounds logical. My car takes forever to warm up in the winter. I don't know about transpro.. never heard of them.

Update: I decided to go with the Transpro radiator, so thank you guys for your input in helping make the decision easier. Even better I got it on sale for $83.99. I don't quite have the luck of alboy91lx, but still it beats the $125-$150 everyone else wanted. Anyway, so far I am quite pleased with the radiator, I haven't had any operating problems yet and the temp hasn't gone over 200 degrees. I did have trouble with the installation though as the radiator was a lot bigger than the one that was in the car. Either they gave me a two core, or the existing radiator was just really small as it was about a 1/2" to an 1" thicker. It was also a tad bit taller so I had to play with the brackets to get it to fit, and now the hood does not latch as well and it has to be slammed shut. Also, the fan braces do not line up anymore. I do not know if it is because radiator is just larger, or if it was because I had a midget radiator in it before that caused the brackets to be out of whack. Anywho, I am content for now and thanks again for your guys help.

Hmm I wonder if that will be an issue with the 3 row radiator that I'm going to get soon. My Radiator is broken, and I need to get a new one fast. I'm going 3 row so that when I drop in a v8 I will have adequate cooling. Good find, but I'm getting mine for $40 from a friend.

Ughh...thats rediculous, I guess I need to look for some new friends. LOL

The width wasn't as much of a problem as the height was. The brackets had enough room for the extra inch, but I did have to add a spacer to my fan bracing to keep it from hitting the radiator. When you put in the new radiator you might want to look into getting a cooling fan and shround from a 5.0.

But will the fan and shroud still fit with a little modification?

With the 2.3 it would still fit, but once you go up to a 5.0 I imagine it might become a tight fit due to the bigger engine. Aside from the one fan support not lining up the same, I could have just installed the fan as normal, but part of the shroud would have been pushing up against the fins on the radiator and I did not feel comfortable with that, so I got a longer bolt and put a nut and some washers between the support and the radiator bracket to keep the fan from touching the radiator.

just spend the money and put a slim fan so you dont have to run a big shroud and have the friction of a fan on the water pump...

I already have an electric fan, so it isn't putting friction on the water pump....
And I'm not gonna buy a thinner electric fan for a while, I don't have money for it now.

Yeah, I don't have 60 bucks. Don't worry, I have a job set up for me to start in a week or two. I have a long list of stuff I need to get for the car.
