maybe you should read the op, and keep in mind it was his first post ever on the forum

but i agree, respect muscle

Okay, it was my first post. I read a few other threads on this forum and noticed that everytime someone brings up an F-body everyone starts bashing. That's cool I understand that it is a Mustang site. But that put me a little on the defensive, and I knew as soon as I stated that I owned an F-body it would be no better. I payed both sides complements, leaning more toward the GM side, but I just need to know are there any other tips or tricks besides FI to beat the Z28?

Flaten his tires!(lol)
Well, there is an article by Texas Hotrods on how too get a 2v into the 12's on a budget.Link
I imagine the 3v would do better with the same mods.

I never was bashing F-body cars. I love all types of muscle cars and all years. Sorry for hijacking your thread.

Go to the street/strip section. There are lots of F-body guys there and you will find that there is a ton of respect for your type of car. You mention other than FI. Sure you can spend a ton of money to make a non-FI car fast, but, why would you when FI on a Stang is so effective and cost efficient?

BTW, I think some of you are forgetting the 351 was originally in Mustangs back in the 60s. Check yourself on the "truck motor" comment.

the 351 was in the F100 before it ever even hit the Mustang

V-6 is for real drivers. Go buy a Jetta if you want gas mileage and a chicks car. Buy a V-8 Mustang if you have no driving ability and need the extra horsepower to compensate and feel like you''''''''re fast.

that's why i was saying it was a truck motor in my earlier post.  that and the fact that you can find them quite regularly in older f-series trucks.

i'm thinking it was around the early 60's or something like that.  i'm not exactly sure.  i know for sure that they were in the '82-'04 F-Series trucks.

So were  GM's 454's, 427's and 350's they were all found in trucks, what's your point?

the 351W was given a very economic cam, not a real power-making cam in the F-Series trucks.  and that's the way you're going to find a lot of them.  i'm not saying that ALL the 351W motors were given that crappy cam, but a lot were.  the 351-powered 'stangs were given a more performance oriented cam

When I said early sixties, I was actually talking about the Cleveland. Who cares what cam the motor came with? Do you think a mustang owner with performance in mind leaves a stock cam in it? Do you need a Keystone Light too?
I smell an unsmooth moment.

well there's too many people here who have just taken Windsor motors and stuffed them into Fox's and thought they were the greatest thing ever.  they kept on forgetting that they had the old truck cam in there.

Just cuz some idiots think a stock 351W truck engine in a fox is badass doesn't mean that a 351W can't be turned into a fire breathing mofo. The point I was making was that everyone always wants to compare the 350 or LS1/2/3/6 to Ford's 4.6 or 5.0 engines, and it's not a fair comparison since the LS has the obvious displacement advantage, so of course it has the potential to make more power, and often will. Compare the LS to at least the 5.4, or better the 351W. The 351 vs LS is a WAY better comparison, they're both 90* V8 engines with similar displacement and pushrod valvetrains. Compare the LS7 to Ford's 427 or Chrysler's 426. A smaller engine can't be fairly compared to a larger engine unless it's given an advantage of i's own such as nitrous or a blower for instance.

i see what you're saying.  i think that if Ford wanted to really get back into the power wars, they would offer at least the 331 in the 'stang.  i mean it's obvious that Ford knows how to get power out of a motor, 300hp from a 4.6 is great.  imagine if they really put some money into a 331 or a 351??  that would deffinitely give GM guys a run for their money
