New member to the forum here, been reading for a while and finally got around to joining. My question is, when I relaese the clutch to start out in 1st gear I hear a popping or snapping sound coming from the engine, trans area. It is not very loud, can,t hear it if you have the radio on. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same sound and might have an idea on what it is.
Thanks
Ed

Does it do it all the time or just when cold ? I get a popping sound also but only when cold for the first block and then it's fine after that but I think it's just coming from the exhaust

Doesn't do it all the time, seems to be more when a little extra power is applied a take off. I do hear it hot or cold, that doesn't make any difference.
Thanks

Mine does the exact same thing. Once it's warmed up I never hear it again. I think maybe the fluid has not circulated in the clutch/tranny yet. Sometimes I will even hear it going from 2nd to 3rd.

Ed,

Does this popping and snapping sound resemble a creaking sound?
When I apply a little power (like slowly pulling forward from a stop), I hear creaking from under the car.

I can't feel anything in the clutch pedal when this happens. I did listen today on my way to Central City, NE, and I am pretty sure it is coming from the tranny. Maybe I am not used to these noisy T5's
Thanks
Ed
