non ricey single exaust

ptkthekid -> non ricey single exaust (4/26/2008 9:17:09 AM)

I am looking to replace the axle back exaust on my 05 v6 manual mustang. I'm not really worried that much about HP gains or performance. My main concern is the sound of the exhaust. I have noticed that some of the axle back exhaust systems (or any system for that matter) can sound a bit ricey. So my question is this: Which axle back exhaust for a single stock v6 sounds the least ricey. I am hoping for a deep, loud rumbly type exhaust. Any links to sound clips would be nice as well. Thanx in advance

Get a Borla, FRPP or a GT take-off depending on how much you have to spend.

Borla's are pretty quiet. If you want a good, throaty muscle sound on a single exhaust go with the MRT AeroTurbine Axle Back.

Search on youtube for some sound clips. Heres a link where you can find it - http://mrt-direct.com/v3/Exhaust%202005+/2005.php

Eh well I've heard they're good but who knows, neither of us have one. I would just go with dual FRPP, because you will definitely wish you got duals later down the road if you just get a single.

NeoAnderson48 -> RE: non ricey single exaust (4/26/2008 11:39:08 AM)

The Borlas are quiet if you don't want that. I have the MRT Aeroturbine; I'm really happy with it, but any single exhaust is going to sound a little ricey. The MRT is probably the least sounding rice, but if you just really want to avoid the rice sound, dual FRPPs are all I know of.

-Guy down the block from me has the single aero turbine, I really don't like how it sounds

-True to the duals, I wish I got duals.  There is no driver side axle back that matches the one I have exactly or I would have gotten it by now.

raubt -> RE: non ricey single exaust (4/26/2008 12:10:32 PM)

I had a single Flowmaster AT for quite a while.  Nice deep aggressive sound, and definitely turned some heads whenever I stomped on it.

They're not too expensive (paid about $200), nice rolled chrome tip, excellent sound for a single. I'd recommend it.

CommanderCOOL -> RE: non ricey single exaust (4/26/2008 1:40:00 PM)

i have a GT take off and honestly, i am really happy with it. I got both mufflers for only $50(new) even though i only installed one. The sound is Great! deep, throaty, muscle-car-like when you step on it but quiet enough to not disturb the neighbor-inos! lol I even noticed a tiny boost in acceleration which was nice!
good luck with you decision!

+1 GT takeoffs are the cheapest way to get better sound in an exhaust set-up, going duals is a cinch and would only add to the great sound you get from a Takeoff.

the FLOWMASTER AMERICAN THUNDER fits ur description perfectly sounds awesome... its jus as loud as duals

landon.moss -> RE: non ricey single exaust (4/26/2008 5:57:07 PM)

i was thinking mrt aeroturbine (sound really good after break-in...good thread on here of vids of it), MAC, or Pypes - the borla and frpp is out of my price range right now, but if i could find a used one around maybe

Bandit111 -> RE: non ricey single exaust (4/26/2008 7:27:28 PM)

I have a single flow 44.I don't think it sounds ricey at all,and it drones very very little. The frrp sound great too,IMO-

p.s-from those who don't know a single exhaust is supposed to mean you are a sixer,i have been confused for a GT somewhat often,lol-

tamazulense -> RE: non ricey single exaust (4/26/2008 7:32:21 PM)

i agree with flowmasters. evryone always talks about other mufflers but the flowmasters i think r the best sounding i have a single flowmaster 40 series and it sounds bitchn. evryone always gives me great comments and i believe it does sound as good or even better than duals on ur V6s. u can hear my car coming a block away.

my first mustang -> RE: non ricey single exaust (4/26/2008 9:17:49 PM)

I ran a single Magnaflow for over 2 years and loved the sound. But the FRPP dual kit I know have is just great. Way to many choices with mufflers!

kevinmalec -> RE: non ricey single exaust (4/26/2008 9:53:58 PM)

I went with the "single" Pypes 409 Stainless Steel Street-Pro Axle-Back. They sound decent once they are broken in (2+ months). Also at higher RPMs it does sound a bit high (ricey). I am Ok w/ it for now; howver I am planning on getting dual FRPP exhaust in the near future. :-)

Check out the youtube link below to listen to my single Pypes exhaust.

Also, you can check out the direct link to the website I purchased from.

Hope this helps....

Good luck!!

I can assure you that the MRT aero is not what you are looking for. I have had mine for almost a year, and every time I drive, I get a little more annoyed by it. It does not sound like muscle, it does ok at idle, and not too bad at WOT. As for everyday driving, it sounds like a loud hum. It hums real bad on the inside, but it sounds even worse on the outside. And thats what people will hear when you drive by, a loud droney hum.

jdphillips73 -> RE: non ricey single exaust (4/27/2008 1:44:04 PM)

i have the american thunder flowmaster single exhaust. had it for over a year. I really dont care for it much, maybe because i have a convertible. Yeah its loud, but really not a awesome sounding loud, more like a poorly running car kinda loud. JMO... and as others have said..you might as well skip the single muffler and go right to duals, thats one of my next moves.
