Hi friends,

What would be according to you the top 5 best ways to loose a little weight on a 1967 coupe? I am talking about not too-intrusive changes (like removing all the interior or replacing all the body). I just want small details that can add up and make a difference.

What I did in this direction so far is:

- Switching from C4 to T5 (probably 15-20 lbs)
- Completely removing the power steering (probably 10-15 lbls)

Thanks for your input, light is right

Radio and any speakers  (have your female passengers sing to you)

Bumpers  (avoid any traffic/obstacles)

Headlights (driving at night with headlights is easy... little ole ladies do it.... real drivers don't need no stinkin' headlights)

Rear seat (two girls can fit on a single front passenger seat...trust me.... plus they can perform duets opening up a whole bunch of additional songs)

WS wiper motor/linkage and wipers (use rainex)

Swapping to an 8" rearend will net considerable weight savings (an 8" can be beefed up to almost the standards of a 9")

Aluminum radiator  ($$$.$$)

Aluminum block/heads/intake  ($,$$$.$$- $$,$$$.$$)

Heater box  (body heat... the girls will get tired of singing eventually.... hopefully...)

;)

Low fuel...gas weighs like 6 pounds per gallon.  5 gallons in the tank instead of 14 saves about 50 pounds or so.

How about a fiberglass leaf spring, eliminating carpet pads or fiberglass deck lid.

Just drive it in the rain and snow...they don't call 'em rustangs for nothing.  Cheaper than an acid dip.

I know the 65-66 coupes were that light, I don't think the '67-up are.  But Aluminum heads are a great, realistic weight savings.  It increases an engine's performance, drops weight, evens out weight distribution and it is weight sitting at a tall height, so a plus there.

I'd take weight off the already heavy nose ends. Replacing engine parts with aluminum will not only loose weight, but also decrease heat buildup and if you go ahead and get the right parts, net you a few ponies.

Aluminum intake sounds like a good/easy thing to look into. Maybe throw in an aluminum carb spacer since it'll be all apart anyways.

The pump itself is robably a good 10 pounds. I converted mine to manual...

carbon fiber DRIVE SHAFT???!?!!?

this must be a joke...

cause the stock ones really arent that heavy. i was thinking of swapping to an aluminum one but when i took mine off i was like HOLY CRAP. it probably weighs 15lbs at most.

it's not really about dead weight also but everything else. rotational mass etc all that jazz. takes more effort to spin that "15lb" driveshaft than it would a 6 or 7 lb aluminium one, same goes with wheels. use huge ass steel wheels iirc the weight is doubled on each corner so if it weighs 30 lbs a wheel in total to the car it's like it's 60lbs. don't think just because you can reduce weight of the car by removing things, think of other stuff, rotational. flywheel, driveshaft, wheels etc. makes a big difference.
