I have an 07 s281sc and the other day i noticed that the heater hose that goes into coolant crossover was leaking. So I put a new hose clamp on it and no I think there is air in the system. Does anyone know the procedure on how to get the air out. Thanks

So did it over heat?

I don't know how to purge the cooling system of air.  Luckily the crossover tube with the whipple has a bleed screw on top.  I'm sure if you google it, you'll find something.

Yes, but it only overheats at idle.

do you have an aftermarket temp gauge or does the stock gauge go into the red?  Does your fan run?

Mine will get up to 218 (head temps), but then the fan kicks on and it cools down to 200ish.  If the fan is working and it's not cooling down, then you definately have a problem.

The only way I can think of to purge the system would be to run it at idle with the cap off the overflow tank and rev the engine.  Of course you'll need it over 180 or whatever your themostat opens at.  I'm assuming that reving the engine will increase water flow and push any air, trapped in the crossover, out.

it's just the stock gauge and it goes in the red, and yes the fan runs.

that's a problem then.  The haynes manual says to run the car with the over flow cap removed.  It says to squeeze the upper radiator hose to expel air and also run the heater on high.

Hopefully someone else will chime in.  My stock temp gauge never moves from the middle.  I have an aeroforce gauge that reads head temps and coolant temps.

It's possible it's not fully opening, but it must be opening some or else it would overheat while cruising as well.

I'd bet Moose's left one that it's the thermostat,   thats the easiest place to start anyway.

So did you take it in?

I went with the wife to see iron man today.  I must say it was a pretty good movie, but a bit slow in parts.  We went to the big city (Gainesville) and the car got pretty hot stopping at all the freaking miss timed traffic lights, but I never saw the factory gauge move past the middle.  On the way home with the A/C on I saw coolant temps stay in the upper 190's and cylinder head temps around 205, even when doing 70mph.  On the way there my coolant and head temps were both 185* so i'm guessing running the A/C increases head temps.  I can't wait to see what it's like in the dead of summer with temps reaching 100, my high speed fan will probably run all the time.

What is the point of the 160* stat that comes with the whipple kit?  It's not like it keeps the coolant temp at 160.
