Yeah sometimes it makes no sense. I believe they want to make it known NOW that they are gay since it's becoming more and more widely accepted as you pointed out. I'm in contrast when you wonder about him being close enough to hear him talk in his sleep. Maybe he talks out loudly...and if not, it doesn't make you gay to even sleep in the same bed as a gay person. That's like child mentality over "cooties". 
Actually, it means you're totally gay.
Some how I believe you are serious and if so that's kind of dumb. I guess that's what I should expect in OT. 
Guy, it you're going around sleeping in the same bed as a gay person, you're gay. Like I'm not even sure how you keep finding yourself in situations where it's reasonable to hop in bed with another dude, let alone a gay dude. I suppose it's not gay when you drain his balls either.

doesn't anyone know the "head to foot" rule
that way theres no chance for the naughty bits to "lock-in" 
oh and kirby, sleeping in bunk beds with another man does not make you gay
