At the rate diesel prices are I can only wait in horror for the day when the truckers go on strike nationwide and our economy hits the ****ter.

Who here thinks we are a ticking time bomb?

I thought that the trucking companies paid for the gas? Guess not, sucks for them.

Last time I checked, they were getting paid bookoo bucks just to sit on their ass and drive a truck around, what exactly would a strike consist of?

more merchandise will be shipped by rail, you will still have semi but i think the rising cost will cut them back

Im a former truck driver, and my dad owns his own trucking company, the prices really havent affected us

and theres two types of drivers,

those that own and maintain(pay for ALL expenses) their own trucks and companies hire them to deliver loads, these are 'owner-operators'

then those that work for a company and they dont worry about anything on the truck, the company pays for all expenses, they just get in and drive, we call them 'drivers'

then these are divided into two types of loads, short-haul(usually a day trip) and 48 states(upto 3-4 weeks driving)

the ones REALLY hurting are the small owner-operators that do long hauls, since they can do a limited number of hauls at a time but fuelprices have cut DEEP into their net profit per haul

we(our trucks) get fuel from Mexico where its 2.10 a gallon, we fitted our trucks with extra fuel tanks(150gal capacity) and sell the fuel to other trucks at around 3.50/gal, which factoring in the cost of transporting the extra fuel comes out to a dollar profit per gallon x 150 gal = a nice little bonus

exellent Idea 86.

the government has been doing an awesome job at sucking knob lately....

hell I bet noone on capital hill really cares about the crisis, all they do is cram the idea of buying hybrid cars or flexfuel crap down our necks...

Ethanol is well, a very stupid idea/concept....

I put 20 bucks in my car today at 3.56... and it got me less than half a tank....

premium down near me is over 4 dollars....

its only a matter of time before gas stations begin getting held up for fuel...

unless its already happened....

something is going to fall in the future... but what?

The government will not let them go on strike. If they did the economy would not go in the ****er it would completely fail. If this happened almost every company across the US would close its doors in 5 days or less. Its exactly how they treat teachers you can threaten all you want but in the end show up or we will jail you.
