We are having a little bit of trouble tuning my 2002 saleen mustang. I put a kenne bell 1.7 charger on it. Now its just running super rich. Its just dumping way to much fuel in. It starts up then to keep it running you have to keep your foot on the throttle otherwise it will die. We tried to tune it with the original xcal 1 because that is what i had laying around. It is almost like the tune never reaches the car because claerly nothing changes in the way it runs. I have heard that you need a X-cal II because it is the only one that will read the Saleen "powerflash". Is this correct? Is this why we cannot make it run right?

I can't say if the Xcal I will work...I've never heard of anyone on the saleen forum using it.....but I can say that the Xcal II will work if you use it.

You can give the techs at SCT a call and they should be able to tell you if the Xcal I will work on saleens.

I don't quite recall. I think they can view the saleen tune and make changes to it....but they're locked out of certain parts of it.

FYI: If you have an Xcal II tuner, the first thing they do is save your stock saleen tune so that you can revert to it at any time.

Did a boost a pump get installed as well? It sounds to me like your just in pure need of a tune, my guess is with the KB kit you got a bigger mass air and injectors and if those are not properly calibrated for the car will run very poor.

What are the exact mods.....

Most reputable tuning companys should have a tune file that will be good as a base then you may want to take it to a dyno and have a professional tune the car.

We have done alot of the 99-04 Saleen cars and the best injector/ mass air combo we found is 90mm lightning and 42's.  These will handle up to 500 HP and are very easy to tune with.  The fuel pump we prefer twin cobra pumps but a single 05 mustang or Focus pump is good too.

I have the Xcal II and it saves/overwites the saleen flash with no probs. Thats how my tuner tuned my car.

Well we got it running well. It just was not accepting the tune from the xcal 1 for whatever reason. I went and bought the xcal 2 and it work right away. I thought then we would have smooth sailing from there. However we ran into another problem which haulted everything. Since saleen really underdrives the engine i saw terrible boost numbers. With the 11lbs pully on the supercharger i saw a awesome 2-3lbs of boost. Haha. So i just ordered a stock water pump pulley that i will put on along with pulling the saleen crank pulley off and running it back off of the harmonic balancer like on a stock GT. I did not think that the underdrive pulleys would take that much boost off but oh well. Just more time i cannot drive my car which sucks. Hopefully by switching back to the stock pulleys i can run at 9lbs.

When I had the Saleen pullies on my car I could only make about 5 LBs of boost. I switch to stock GT pullies and now I run 11ish lbs

Saleen Installs Underdive pullies on all the non s/c cars, you should remove them before adding a supercharger to the car, some options would be stock gt pullies, or possibly an upgrade to an 8 rib setup, you can pice an 8 rib together from an F-150 of the same year.
