^^ not that hard if it works like I think it does. The base of support is underneath that contact point and the hammer using the string as a pivot point doesn't rotate all the way around because of the ruler. Try it

The string is the fulcrum. The weight of the head of the hammer, pivoting on the string is causing the other end of the hammer to push UP on the ruler.
