I think it's a pretty sweet deal for a mere $185k. F430 performance for the price of a 360 Modena. I think Ferrari might feel it in the wallet once it hits the market. Plus you might actually be able to modify and work on it yourself, unlike its Italian counterparts. The only thing I don't like is the "Raptor" part. Why not just leave it at the S5S?

I rather save some more money and get the F430.

Abbas,
If all you do is complain about your Saleen to everyone, you should probably sell it, save your pennies and try to buy the F430

Mea Culpa Chuck! I must have been on (mental) vacation that week... [8D]
Actually I like the looks of it and far prefer it tothe Chinese roller-skate-looking car we feared he'd be making. However, as a fan of the classic lines of our cars, dollar for dollar I'd take mine (or better yet, YOURS) any day. I do think S5S is a stupid model number, tho. [:'(]
Also we girls have a secret suspicion that men who drive cars that look like thatare attempting tocompensate for falling "short"(ahem) in other areas...[&:] Whereas men who drive classic-looking muscle cars know they are super-sufficient in allareas. :D

That car is sick! 650 hp, 200+mph and a 10 second quarter mile for under $200K is not bad! YeaI know the new Z06 is close to that but definitely not as exclusive and good looking. I think this is a great new market Saleen has entered with this vehicle...If only I had money....one of those in black would look rediculous!

I wasnt complaining about my Saleen. I was saying that if I had $180k to spend, I would rather buy a Ferrari. There is a reason why the F430 has a 2 year waiting list. Also you have to admit that Saleens DO NOT have a good re-sale value.

I'll give you that Abbas. I once dated this girl who's dad owned 2 Ferrari dealerships (yes, he had an Enzo) and the 430 was by far his favorite care to drive.

Bear in mind that you, regardless of how much money you have, cannot buy a new Ferrari. The waiting list for any new one is a year or two, and spots on the waiting list are preferentially given to existing owners.
Joining the Ferrari club requires diligence: first, you must buy a used Ferrari. Congratulations! You're an existing owner. Of course many of your fellow rich folks have or have had multiple cars, so they're still ahead of you in line...maybe after another car you can actually get on a multi-year waiting list for a new one.
But yes, the resale value is MUCH better!

More on the raptor at Automobile Magazine's site:
http://www.automobilemag.com/features/news/0804_saleen_s5s_raptor_will_they_build_it/index.html
On particularly interesting part of the story:
"Chris Theodore, Ford's former head of North American product development and the man who brought us the Ford GT, stopped
by...to tell us more about one of his current projects as vice chairman and chief technical officer of Saleen."
It sounds like Saleen has brought some good people on board. I hope they build the Raptor and garner more attention for the Saleen brand. Although the S7 did that to some extent, I don't think many people connect the S7 to the S281 cars in any way (nor should they). Perhaps the Raptor will be a bit closer to to the S281/302 lines in terms of shared tech development and we'll see some trickle down of new parts for the S281/302 cars as a result. I can at least dream...
