So I recently picked up a Zex wet kit for a good price and a few components. I've researched numerous sites for tech articles on the install and it seems prety simple. However, I need the bottle filled and a dyno tune, so I called a local shop to see how much it would be to install the whole kit and not have to worry about it.
The guy picks up the phone and I tell him what I want. He asks me what components I have, and I tell him the Kit, purge, and remote bottle opener. He says hang on let me get these figures for you. A minute later he comes on the phone and says: $1100 for install, $150 for tune, and $250/hr for dyno!!! I about fell out of my chair...especially for a kit like Zex which is supposively fool-proof! Initially I thought to myself at those prices I would have bought a supercharger!!!
Needless to say I'm gonna tackle this one myself. Like I said before I have a few good articles on the install that I think can take me through it. With that being said, if anyone wants to chime in with any tips or hints by all means help me out, but I will be damned before I pay someone $1100 to put it in...
Is this a normal going price for a nitrous install?????
Ouch!!! Stay with a 75 shot and you shouldn't need a dyno tune with the Zex kit.

idk. maybe they thought you wanted to buy everything through them? I had a guy who said he would install one for me for $120 but honestly I would just do it myself.
First give it a try. The part that scared me off from buying was all the components added on(price) and all the wiring, which I can't wire. But $1100 for an install? I would have been laughing throughout that whole conversation. Are you planning an install soon?
Firstly, it's supposedly. Supposively is not a word.
Easy there killer...its not a grammar forum. I've seen where this goes before...
Anyways, back to the subject at hand- yea I was thinking that maybe he thougnt I meant the whole kit included too, but I repeated myself twice to him. I'm definitely gonna install it myself regardless, so I'm just looking for anyone that has done it that has a few pointers...
I was on the fences too, but I kept waitin for a kit to pop up on here or ebay for a good price. I got my the kit with pressure gauge and purge for $300. Snagged a remote bottle opener for $150. So I got $450 invested for about $800 worth of parts!!! not too bad... Still looking for a window switch and bottle heater!
Took me most of a day screwing around blind and got it done. If you need help installing anything, send me a PM and I will give you some tips.
Thanks, I will def. keep that in mind if I run into anything. Did you install your bottle on one side or in the middle towards the rear seat? Also, do you have a blow down tube? If so, did you have to drill a hole? Just tryin to map things out.
Yea they guy had to be smokin' crack and got mixed up and thought I wanted to buy the kit as well...

I was quoted $750 install price for: (PHX area shop)
Zex Wet Kit with the Racer's kit (blow down tube, bottle guage, heater, purge kit) SOS switch cup holder panel install with 4 switches wired, heater, purge, arm, and Ford start button !! SOS A-pillar dual guage panel with Autometer Fuel pressure/NOS pressure guages installed Zex Traction window switch installed under dash.
Seemed like a good price with all the extra stuff, i wanted every safety feature and bell and whistle
That being said I changed my mind, sold all the parts and made $300 since I got such great deals originally lol
Make damn sure the shop has installed this particular kit on a S197, and get a warranty on the install, expecially for that much $$$
Hate to say it but most Mustang shops frown on NOS, you almost better off going to import shop, at lease they respect it, lol
Some of the places I called didn't even know what a window switch was
