Help with Wheels/Rims 05 Roush

Xantom -> Help with Wheels/Rims 05 Roush (4/21/2008 8:01:42 PM)

I have just purchased an 05 Roush Sport Mustang GT.  I want to put different Rims on but I am usure of a few things.

Are 20" wheels too big for this car?

I am looking for a Rim similar in looks, a nice clean chrome 5 spoke,  to the one I attached to this post.  I have been looking at the American Racing Chrome Rebel.

Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

20s are not to big for our s197s. They look like 18s on most other cars. 20s with a drop suspension look real good. I am running staggered 20s and I really like them. Are you looking for a staggered wheel? deeper lip in the rear? Theres a whole bunch of classic 5 spoke wheels out there. Depends on what brand and how much you're willing to pay.

Nice car, Xantom, and welcome [:)]

I think 20" wheels are too big for a Stang. It is my opinion to stay 18"s or 19"s. Do you want to go huge meats, or just a little wider? You can easily go 9"s and 10"s. Do a little looking around and let me know.

20's are too big.  Go with 18's, they look a lot better on a mustang.

I don't want to modify the suspension.  I would rather keep the tire sizes the same.  If I go with directionals I can rotate them at least on one side.

Will I have to modify my suspension to get 20's on?  The sizes that the American Racing Rebels come in are 18", or 20", no 19".

So far it seems that 18's might be the way to go.  Any more suggestions are appreciated, thanks again for your posts.

I am running staggered 20s and I really like them.

Can you post some pics, thanks.

You will not have to modify the suspension to fit any of the wheels, provided the wheel is not too wide and the off-set is correct. You will have a better choice of off-sets and widths with smaller wheels. This is the biggest reason to go with 18"s, IMO.

Head over to ***fnsweet*** as this is a Roush appreciation site and will give you a fantastic idea of YOUR car with lots of different wheels. Also try the ***Saleen / Roush*** section of MF's. Mostly Saleens, but a handful of Roush's and nearly 100% of the S197's are running 20"s.

                 Good luck [:)]

Thanks, I will let you know what I come up with.

You wouldn't have to modify the suspension at all to add 20s. On a side note; I forgot to mention the car feels, and is slower once the 20s went on. You might want to go with the same size rims if you want to rotate. I never had that option going with staggered. Depends if thats important to you. If you just want a different look, go 18s.

guys, don't forget that even with directional tires and a staggered set up, you can still rotate the Left with the Right.  All you have to do is remove the tire and have it mounted the other way around before you put it on the other side. [;)]

Also, while I agree that 20s are too big on most mustangs, I think they're just fine on the 2005+.  These new ones are far more "heavy" looking, that I think a bigger rim looks better on them.

Thanks for your posts.

I found a car on fnsweet.com with AR Razors, link below.  I think 18's will be the way to go for now. They look good on this guys car and I can't see adding 2" to the diameter of those wheels being beneficial, other than looks.  From what I have heard, 20's will reduce ride and performance.

I have attached a pic of the AR Rebel, any thoughts on this wheel.

I like the American Rebel wheel, but who cares what I think [:)] Go get the wheel you like, it's YOUR car [:D]
