I thought it had something to do with NO2 that just sat in the engine until there was enough to ignite. I am probably way off though...haha
Engines are easy to find, the the green backs I have trouble hunting down Just a point to clarify though nitrous isn't flamable, its an oxidizer. Your worry is legit, if your engine is full of n20 when it isn't supposed to be (turned off or below 2500rpm) when that charge is ignited your going to have excessive cylinder pressure that will go some where! If your lucky it will only back fire up through the intake valves and blow apart you intake and twist up your throttle plate. But, it could also be worse... In general if you run lean, have excessive cyclinder pressure, pinging trouble will follow. Its just tends easier to be easier to get into trouble with nitrous.
FM...the purge isn't actually a saftey device, its purpose is to clear the line of any 'old' nitrous. That way way you have max pressure and all liquid n2o at the solenoids for max/consistant power when you spray. To me its more for show on anything but a serious race car. A fule pressure cut off switch is a saftey device that should be added even with the window switch.

Purge also helps bracket racers maintain consistant ET's.

I have a stock v6, and soon ill have a CAI, Exhaust, and chip. Could I get a nitrous kit and run it just with that? If so, would it be pretty risky?
yes. with a 75 shot or less. (anything higher and u need a new tune)
our stangs dont use "chips" they use handheld tuners.
with a CAI, exhaust, tuner (Xcal2 or Predator.. etc), and a tune, plus N2O with some goodies, you are looking at spending at least 2 grand..
start with the cai, exhaust, and tuner/tune, and see how you like them and if its worth dropping the money for the N2O or a turbo/supercharger. If I had 4 grand I wud have gone the Xcharger route.. but I had one, so I went N2O.

now is nitrous really that bad for your engine? And yeah i know it would be about that price, and yeah that was the exact route I was planning on taking.

I use the zex kit...100 shot with NGK TR6 plugs gaped at .34 and the zex window switch set to turn on at 2500. I have already gone thru more than 10 bottles , with both street and track use, and no problems so far(knock on wood). You can hide all the switches and stuff under the dash..but if they check your trunk they will see the brakets and in the engine bay they will notice the nitrous NMU with all the braided lines coming in and out of it. http://videos.streetfire.net/video/2005-Ford-Mustang-V-6-135--103_145613.htm couple of runs on the 100 shot...including the 13.5 one.

I was watching Muscle Car on TV and they did a segment on the Mustang Blocks cracking from Nitrous/SC the block will actually twist and crack, the fix was some supports under the intake Manifold that run side to side after you drill a 1/4 hole for some alignment pins. Anyone see that?
I saw that one, interesting fix, but like Rygen said, that was only for the V8
but I really think the Zex kit made for the 2005+ Mustang is the very best for our car. It electronically mixes the Nitrous and fuel and the mini computer module that comes with it adjust for lean/rich automatically and this also helps when bottle pressure gets lower..
In other kits you have to buy WOT switches.. the Zex kit made for our car is progammed by holding down the gas pedal.. and learning WOT.. so when you arm the Zex.. it knows the WOT it gives nitrous at the appropriate time safely..
Also V6 owners.. if you dont want to use the 75 shot.. buy the jets seperately for 55 or 65 shot for the Zex
You get about NINE to TEN 1/4 mile runs off a 100 shot ( thats using it the entire 1/4 mile ) in a 10 lb bottle ..
If you don't want cause premature wear in you 4.0 liter V6 .. absolutely don't use more then a 100 shot in a V6 .. use 75 if you want to play it safe.. If you want to be conservative like I'm thinking.. buy 65 or even 55 shot nozzles from Zex .. they have them in their catalog on the website and you can call them.
With a 55 shot .. using it sparingly .. 3 or 5 seconds at a time when needed I think it'd be a cheap way for power on demand.. at about $25-$30 per refill of nitrous..
