sports bikes scare me...

who needs to go that fast, that quickly

I've never personally ridden one alone, but I have been on the back of one many times.  It is very scary at first, and you have to have a lot of faith and trust in the person your with.   Going 100+mph with nothing around you is quite scary indeed, but there is nothing like it either.

ive hit 167mph in florida on my sv.......corrected speedo is prob 155-158mph (-1 frount sprocket gear)

fastest ive ever gone, and being that i live in colorado now, i dont think it will ever happen again

i use to be pretty dumb when i first got the 1000, half throttle or more in first gear puts your frount wheel in the air.....

here, at 5400ft elevation i have to pop the clutch to get the wheel up..... damn thin air

Thanks for the compliment on the car~!   Finally getting finished up on the new additions to the car, and it should be back out on the road in a just a few more days!!!!   I'm excited!!

As for being "scary", you're damn right it can be scary.  I remember riding on the back of his Yamaha R1 once passing a car on a curvy two lane highway.........I can remember watching the speedo just keep climbing and climbing........I was scared to death.    Sportbikes can be great fun, but that was one time I prayed until it was time to get off of it!!!

i rode with a guy that was 250lbs, and he could only hit 90mph at best (down hill, wind, etc) thats on the old 250 ninjas

if your a lighter guy, you could hit 90mph as a top speed on a flat serface.

if you do get the bike, dont be afraid to rev her up, shes not going to make power under 5k rpm, on the 250 youll be at 7k-8k rpm on the highway, these bike will take a beating, its almost impossible to blow the engine, and i really mean that.

also, dont skip out on gear, buy a nice helmet, jacket, and gloves.

awesome. yeah im around 220. Thanks for the advice. Yeah I plan on the jacket, helmet, gloves, boots and pants maybe for just bs-ing but since Ill be going to class im not going to try and make people think that im right out of the movie "Torque"

Hopefully I will be able to egt my insurance and bike payment down to around 100 bucks/month. I have some money I was saving up for nitrous but ive decided to get a 2010 GT so then I was gonna use that for mod money but hell ill just use it for my DD to keep miles off the GT.

I did the insurance quotes online and they quoted me at 63/month and then another place quoted me at 3x/month for 11 months and 1 month would be like 78 I believe. I have to talk my parent sinto this as they pay for my car insurance and school so I cant piss them off but i may get it a little cheaper by adding the bike to our current policy.

my friends first bike was a 600, he sold it in two weeks to get something better. start big, theres no reason to learn how to ride a slower bike if your just gonna upgrade. and you will upgrade.

If he is a beginner, he should start with lower displacement bikes.

the size doesn't matter it only goes as fast as you twist the handle

if your riding an hour then i would really think about going for a cruiser! heck a used 2007+ 883 sportster with the efi will get 60mpg and be quick enough to be satisfied with it, its right in the middle not to small not to big. plus the insurance will be alot cheaper than any sport bike, i think they have new ones for $99 a month and my insurancve with a reckless driving charge was still only 50 for full coverage

Beginners don't need a 600
