michiganman5 -> 94 Vert - Top problem ****HelP PLEASE *** (4/21/2008 11:48:18 AM)

Hey all,

94 Vert, sitting for a while.  Window in back has leak and lots of water sat for a while inside car.  Caused many problems.  One of which is:

Vert top worked when parked - Now when i press the switch, either up or down, doesn't work.  Thought I heard a click, but nothing.  Checked the fuse, it appears to be good, but some of the items on the fuse are not working either (back up lights for one).  Have had some mice problems, wired knawed on, so not ruling that out.  Is there a way to "hot wire" the top to see if it works and maybe the power, or control wiring is damaged?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Jay

Put a test light to where the motor power plug is and see if it lights up when you or someone else tries the button. If the light doesnt go on than do the same at the switch. Make sure there is power going to and from the switch. If you dont have a test light get one. If you had mice in it the light will come in handy for the other electrical issues they caused.

Thanks for the advice!

I put a multimeter on the two connections going into the motor.  When turning on the switch, I get 12 volts to the motor.

I take it that means the motor is bad!

#1 Should I replace the motor and the pistons? or just the Motor?

#2 is it an easy installation (i know physically it looks easy, but is there a problem with the pistons and the hydraulic fuel etc?)

#3 If I try to put the top down manually, it's VERY hard to move the top.  Is this normal?  Can I do something to the motor to make it easy to put up/down manually until I get a new motor?

Thanks in advance...

p.s. found used motor for around $50 bucks, good price?  Should I stay with new?

Jay
