Default Help me build my system please, thanks :)

Okay, so ill start a new thread and organize everything. Iv decided im going to do my own install and i have been reading up on a bunch of things, and seight has helped me a lot as well.

What I aim to accomplish is a decent sounding system for a decent price. No cheapo crap, but nothing rediciously expensive. Its hard for me since when i buy something, i want to buy the best of the best lol. Its an expensive habbit...

I've heard nothing bad about eD stuff, so im looking at that. But im also looking at stuff i can pick up locally. How are pioneer, inifinity, or kenwood? They seem to be significantly less than the eD stuff while putting out more impressive numbers. Although, im looking for more sq than spl.

I will be building my own custom enclosure as well, and have read that sealed boxes provide more sq while ported or vented provides more sql

Also, can someone clear up an amp question for me? When matching an amp to a sub or speakers, i have to match the amp to the rms wattage of the sub? Most sub specifications throw out 3 or 4 wattage specifications at you... which ones are the most important

As for price... im looking to spend maybe 500$ on sub(s)+amp+door speakers(will purchase another amp later)

the power rating of the speaker is the least important number to look at. When matching a speaker to an amp make sure that the impedence(ohms) match before you worry about the speakers power rating.

how about:

infinity speakers: 100-200$
infinity amp 50x4+ 150x1: 350
sub of your choice.
most important # to look at is the rms (which is the power output most of the time), at the number of ohms your sub is. the lower the ohms, the more power the amp puts out. and peak power is the most powerful the amp could be for a brief burst.

No, they are not good quality.

You have $500.00 for sub(s), amp(s), and a You might as well get a comp set.

Are You going to be doing the install, or is he paying for it?

You look at a box being around $45 if You can build one Yourself.

Never buy a pre-fab box.

Wiring is around $30-$35.

Basically close to $100.00 just for the neccesities.

Which leaves You with 400 for the 'system.'

Why don't You buy a quality componet set with an amp and upgrade from there?

^^ buy 500$ worth of junk or buy a nice front stage that would most likely sound better then the entire 500$ system.

^^ well im sure they sound good when compared to the sony's in the display next to them. Find a car that has focal/cdt/etc and ull see what highs and mids are really suppose to sound like.
