So I just found this Saleen s281 'supercharged' on eBay...I just wanted to get some opinion on it and if you think it's legit, a good deal, etc. I probably wouldn't pull the trigger as I just went to the dealership today to start looking (LOVED them) but couldn't even get a test drive! But this car seems to good to be true, it's the color I'm looking for, low miles, claims to be supercharged...Too bad it's on the other side of the country! Can someone verify if this is a real saleen, and if it looks to be a good deal? I'm wondering, if I can get him down to 28 I might see what I can do, I'd hate to pass up this oppurtunity even though I'd have to act real fast! Thanks
If you really love the car, check to see if the seller wants a deposit. From what I saw he didn't. Some important things to consider: 1)Do a car fax on it. I think it's around $10.00. I bought my Extreme on eBay and did the same. Spend a couple of bucks on this before spending thousands on a pandora box deal. 2)Drive the car and make sure you feel it. 3)Check if there is smoke (blueish) coming out of it as soon as it's started 4)As you drive it push the car to feel how the clutch/tranny respond. 5)Make sure the car IS NOT running before you test-drive it and check the engine oil FIRST! 6)Take a look from beneath the car and see if there has been any scratches or signs of suspension damage or abuse. 7)Check on any "wet" areas under the car, water leaks, oil leaks, etc, 8)Ask for original papers on supercharger installation and call the center that did it and confirm the story that they did the job and also check their reputation. This needs to be done first along with #1 on this list.
If all this works out well. You may have found you dream car.
Good luck!

Call Saleen, and verify the VIN, it is a simple call. They can also give you a repair history.
I would also call Ford, and run the VIN by them, they may or may not give you a repair history (Ford related), and they will let you know if recalls have been performed.
Car does seem like a really good deal. I think it is not quite worth as much as if it came supercharged originally, but I am assuming it would be close. I have not seen one for under 30k yest that is SC.
If you canno t go there, pay one of those outside companies (100.00) to go check the car for you. They will do a thorough inspection, and give you a detailed report. Well worth it.

ORIGINAL: mills281e Looks like a good deal. But, it doesn't look like the engine bay of the car was very well taken care of. I would look for similar things throughout.
I'm not overly anal about my cars, but I take good care of them and the dirty engine bay was the first thing I noticed as well. How does the engine bay get so dirty with so few miles?
As for whether it is a good deal, you would basically need to look at what N/A Salen Saleens have sold for on ebay (I haven't followed those prices) and add $2-3k for the (depreciated) value of the supercharger install.

C'moin, a little bit of work.....Just kidding.. www.saleen.com is where I got the nuimber from Saleen Headquarters 1225 East Maple Road in Troy Michigan 48083-2818, U.S.A. Tel: 248-743-4800
I would probably call Irvine. Just tell them what infor you are looking for, they were really helpful when I called. Tell them you are looking at one, and want some info on it. They will help. No need to ask for anyone imparticular. They can tell if there has been any SALEEN warranty work, not Ford work though. As for body work, I would see what Cafax says about accidents.
Then engine bay does look really dirty. That happened to mine when shipped in an open trailer though.
