What are some of your favorite bands? Aside from the main stream like Norma Jean and KillSwitch. Im talkin about the bands you go to your local show and see. (top 5?) Links to vids/myspaces would be cool too so we can see how they sound/perform
theyre a metal band, idk if its "hardcore" or whatever you're lookin for though....but theres was a local band here in ohio called V-Mob that was badass...i think they might be regrouping soon....when i think of hardcore i think of minor threat....but you said KSE, so i figured this band was close enough to them

None of those bands are really hardcore bands. Thursday is emo. Underoath is more metal/rock. Silverstein is rock. Oh, Sleeper is metalcore, which is metal with breakdowns pretty much. Norma Jean and The Chariot are the cloest things to hardcore. But they are more mainstream. The Devil Wears Prada is ok, but they are metalcore. Dance Gavin Dance is wussy. They are like indie emo rock haha. August Burns Red, and As I Lay Dying are both metal too. Worddd
The way people make up these sub-genres kill me. Metalcore, grindcore, death metal, metal, rock, emo, hardcore. Really? I mean..REALLY? It's silly. Stop trying to be so "different" all of the time.

They are all compltely different. It's not about being different, it's about the music being a different genre. Sure, to someone that doesn't listen to it, it may sound similar sometimes. But it's no different than any other type of music. For instance, people that don't listen to rave, techno, trance, or whatever you want to call it, would just call it all techno. That's what I do. It's not my niche, and I don't enjoy it. I can't differentiate between any of them, nor do I care to. But the people that listen to it sure can, and they know the difference.

im gonna have to agree with this guy. i mean what Hiss lists doesnt necessarily reflect what i like or dont like, but Watts is right, theyre in less words a knock-off or sub-genre of a crossbreed metal/"emo". personally i wouldnt consider any of them a true hardcore band. i mean just because youre in the band and classify yourself in a certain genre, whether it be an umbrella genre or a specific sub-genre, it doesnt mean its right. they may say theyre hardcore, but thats like saying a guy playing jazz is classifying himself as a blues artist. although they have their similarities, they have just as many differences. not all music is a plain as night and day, or rap and country.
In short: just can the talk and enjoy the music. Enough about your genre or how you "don't really sound like anyone else."

Bingo. A better example might be given with cars. Non-enthusiasts see a Mustang as a Mustang. It can be a GT, it can be a Cobra, a Mach, or even a V6. But all they see is a Mustang. They don't care about performance, or any of the other differences between any model. But for a Mustang enthusiast, the differences are vast, and plain as day. Much the same as music. Any genre for that matter. You have rock, blues, vocal, classical, etc. But inside each one of those genres, are sub-genres that each have their own style, and are completely different. Of course you can't tell unless you are interested in it. Some people call anything with a band playing music "rock".

well i do have to say that "hardcore" has morphed quite a bit through the years to the point i don't even know what to call my music anymore.
i'm oldskool.... hardcore to me is suicidal tendencies, sick of it all, the misfits black flag, bad brains and too many more
hardcore was hardcore punk... just a little stronger than the "mainstream" punk if you could even coin it that, since at that time there was nothing mainstream about it
i must be getting old becasue i recognized about 3 of ALL the bands mentioned above lol.
but here are some old skool classics u must check out if you don't know ... that i truly believe inspired all the bands you might enjoy wheter metal, hardcore, punk or the new feminine form of punk.
also is a link for my little brothers myspace page, they have a few good songs cut and ready to go. str8 up old skool skankin music
