well i do have to say that "hardcore" has morphed quite a bit through the years to the point i don't even know what to call my music anymore.
i'm oldskool.... hardcore to me is suicidal tendencies, sick of it all, the misfits black flag, bad brains and too many more
hardcore was hardcore punk... just a little stronger than the "mainstream" punk if you could even coin it that, since at that time there was nothing mainstream about it
i must be getting old becasue i recognized about 3 of ALL the bands mentioned above lol.
but here are some old skool classics u must check out if you don't know ... that i truly believe inspired all the bands you might enjoy wheter metal, hardcore, punk or the new feminine form of punk.
also is a link for my little brothers myspace page, they have a few good songs cut and ready to go. str8 up old skool skankin music
You know exactly whats up. That's exactly where hardcore came from. It started as hardcore punk. They were more intense than the other run of the mill punk bands, and their lyrics were generally more about standing up for what you believe. Which is one of the major things in hardcore. From there, new bands picked up on this, and hardcore was born. Bands like Minor Threat and stuff.

BTW Ardoller, CDC is good. I've seen them.
along with all the other bands i listed, the guys from CDC live in my town just north of Philadelphia, with the exception for Fight Night and Palehorse. SFAR i believe originated in the Scranton PA area but im not exactly sure where theyre at now.
Im not sure what label CDC is on anymore, I havnt really talked to many of the guys in any of those bands since i left for college 3 years ago. oddly enough i talked to one of the guys that was really close to a lot of these people, today, but didnt get a chance to ask about any of them. anyways, last i heard, CDC was doing a european tour about 3 years ago. The Minor Times actually just broke up after a really long run, unless things changed. most of the guys in TMT were just ready to move on with their lives... doing underground world tours tends to take a toll on you.
How It Ends i believe is also dis-band now, they were formerly Dysphoria, but that was years ago. Dead Again is doing shows again from what i hear, i think Leavenworth is still promoting their last record from a few years ago, which was a split with Five Families (Texas), which i wasnt too fond of. their older stuff was much better. Cetus is still around, they just released some new stuff not too long ago after a few instrument switches... the bass player left, the guitar player went to drums, and i think they brough someone else in for guitar too. and Inane hasnt been around since probably about 2003. i believe they were the first band i got to see at a show, they always had a great show.
i even remember the last show i was at, it was about 2 years ago this august, it was the night after Set Your Goals flew in and sold out a local VFW... if you could imagine a room literally 20 yards by 10 yards filled with over 300 people. some band from Indiana played that following night although i cant remember their name, it was a shame, they were pretty good too. and Cetus debut'd their new stuff. I wish i could still go to these shows but i just dont have the time anymore.
My friend saw Set Your Goals here in OKC last Saturday. He said they were really arrogant. I guess they've gotten a big head. I didn't see them because I saw A Day To Remember that same night.
But I would definitely say CDC is a hardcore band above all else. Just look at the lyrics. They are all about being yourself, standing up for what you believe, and standing by your friends.
Here are the lyrics to one of their songs..
Sometimes you lose, Sometimes you win, Get knocked down, Get back up again. When you think the bottle is your only friend Just remember, that in the end WE HAVE EACH OTHER Through thick and thin You are my brother. You are my friend.
Sometimes your friends arent enough... Raise up from the ashes of your mistakes, start again. Even if the world holds you down, do for yourself.
Do whats in your heart, never think twice, Your sights more precise with every roll of the dice
My victory, a catalyst, get the ones I love on their feet. my victory.

Im not a fan of Set Your Goals, but ill give it to em, they draw a good crowd.
I had a class in high school with the original guitar player of CDC. the biggest problems around here though are venues getting shut down. just about all of not all of the local venues have been shut down or refuse to have the shows anymore, mainly because of those select few that like to abuse their welcome. i mean overall we've gotten nothing but compliments from visitors and most people that host the shows that arent involved with the bands or anything, but others just dont want to do it anymore, and it forces everyone to move elsewhere. the drives were becoming 45min-hr drives to the closest show, and at 7pm after work, a drive by myself out to find a venue that was like off of a dirt road 40 miles from where i live just wasnt appealing anymore, especially after a long day of work.
SECRET LOVERS By: Atlantic Starr Here we are, the two of us together Takin’ this crazy chance to be all alone We both know that we should not be together ‘Cause if we’re found out, it could mess up Both our happy homes I hate to think about us all meeting up together ‘Cause as soon as I look at you it will show on my face, yeah Then they’ll know that we’ve been loving each other We can’t let ‘em know, no, no, no We can’t leave a trace Secret lovers, yeah, that’s what we are We should not be together But we can’t let go, no, no ‘Cause we love each other so Ooh…ooh… Sittin’ at home, I do nothin’ all day But I think about you and hope that you’re okay Hopin’ you’ll call before anyone gets home I wait anxiously alone by the phone How could something so wrong be so right I wish we didn’t have to keep our love out of sight, yeah Living two lives just ain’t easy at all But we gotta hang on in there or fall Secret lovers, yeah, that’s what we are We should not be together But we can’t let go, no, no ‘Cause we love each other so Secret lovers, yeah, that’s what we are Tryin’ so hard to hide the way we feel ‘Cause we both belong to someone else But we can’t let go ‘Cause what we feel is, oh, so real So real, so real You and me, are we friends Is this cool or do we care Can they tell what’s in our minds Maybe they’ve had secret loves all of the time In the middle of making love we notice the time We both get nervous ‘cause it’s way after nine Even though we hate it, we know it’s time that we go We gotta be careful so that no one will know Secret lovers, yeah, that’s what we are Trying so hard to hide the way we feel ‘Cause we both belong to someone else But we can’t let go ‘Cause what we feel is, oh, so real So real, so real, so real, so real
Dang, is the scene down their pretty rough or something? We don't have any problems like that around here. People all get along pretty good. There are always the occasional fights, but they get broken up, and the people get thrown out sometimes. But overall, things are pretty friendly down here. Is that why venues can't stay open down there?

i think the biggest thing though is that the guys are just simply growing out of it. sure the love for the music will always be there, but a lot of the guys that were in these bands are starting to or already have families of their own. when the "scene" i guess you could call it around here was probably at its peak, i was still in high school, but i was one of the younger guys there. most of the guys in the bands themselves were already in their early to mid 20's. most of the "younger" bands by age, were still consisted of guys that are older than i am.
i havnt really kept up with the guys anymore, but a lot of them are still around, although every year it seems to get younger and younger. i just think what kept it such a sucess when it was doing so well, was the guys involved with everything. a lot of the kids that still go to the shows were doing just that years ago, just going to them. a lot of the guys that set up shows, traveled with the bands, let them crash at their place when they were in town, organized venues and just basically dealt with everything to keep things running, are all now starting to venture off into another part in their lives... leaving the younger guys that didnt really do much more than pay to see these bands play, have to start help putting these things together. and i think the inexperience of these guys is starting to show, and really make this thing not what it used to be. its a real shame.
Yeah I know what you mean. Around here we are lucky enough to have several venues that are passionate about it. Not the kind that couldn't care less, books a show or two a month, and isn't dedicated. We've got some great people that actually care about the music, and put their time and money into keeping these things alive. As long as there is a reputable place for bands to play, there will be good shows.
