long post;
okay, i worked at cracker barrel for 8 months, straight day shift. made good money. just a job to have while im in school. well, for the past 3 months - the scheduling manager (lets call him adam), adam had me working 11-4 every day. which would be okay if you made any money, but you dont. so i told him one day that if he didnt change my schedule (I didnt mind working some 11-4's, just not everyday), that i would have to find another job b/c i wasnt making enough money. KEEP IN MIND; i lived 35 minutes away from the place. well one day, i go there to eat after church on Sunday (havnt worked a sunday since i started) and adam says... 'your suppose to be at work today'. Proceeded to tell me it was MY job to look at my schedule, okay- he changed the schedule with out telling me. So the following monday, i gave them a two notice. Then the lawyer im working for now calls and say "i need you to start wed". I went in Cracker Barrel, explained to Adam that I was really sorry about not being able to follow through with my 2 week notice. so he says "go ahead and work today, and its fine- no hard feelins". So i go to the break room to get ready, when I go up to the front- He took me off the floor plan, and i was like wtf adam...he proceeded to say "if you dont need me anymore, i dont need you". Dont know if that is getting fired, I went and got my sh*t and left! Only to have a phone call a week or so later from the main manager who I really got along with saying "you can come back and work any time that you want to, or on your days off from the law office"

at my work they try to meet people at the door and then taken to some undisclosed location for a discussion 
I dont think they get their stuff, it is taken care by others and then sent home or whatever.

I'll let you know if do something to merit a "probation" period. If you mess up during this time I may fire you at any time without notice. It's a tanning salon. It's not hard. If you get fired from here you really fugged up.
Real jobs your recieve your green/pink sheet (termination notice) on your desk when you come in.

Were I work the HR people come and do the dirty work. So when we see the guy from HR (darth vador) down on our floor we know somebody is about to be terminated. He pulls you into a room and you just vanish and the HR people take care of cleaning the office of the departed.

At my work we have Saturday sales meetings (8am) and the DM will make someone sit through the meeting before they fire them.

most middle management guys are chumps. I don't care what anyone says. It says: "I'm good at following orders to the T, but I'm too stupid to be in charge of the bigger picture. That is the reason I went independent. I'm not gonna become a franchise to have some dickweed district/regional come in and tell me how to run MY salon.

Yeah, that would be nice!
I used to load beer trucks in college and thought it'd be sweet to quit by raising a pallet of beer up as high as I could and pushing it off.
But, with my luck as soon as I did I'd get owned by the forklift when it flipped over and I got crushed by a pallet of 16oz Keystone Light...
