ok this is my 94 f150....it makes this noise....wtf is it???

http://s70.photobucket.com/albums/i82/SaleenSS90/?action=view&current=CIMG0224.flv

it only does it under these circumstances

- park, neutral, drive, *didnt try reverse*

- if moving, must be under 20mph

- only does it at 1/4 throttle

- much louder when moving, and sometimes picks up a rhythm with the wheel

- sounds like passenger side rear

any ideas??

u-joint, perhaps??  Is something rubbing the wheel? exhaust hanger broke and hitting driveshaft?  kinda hard to tell, vid sounds don't really tell too much, but sounds like something hitting the driveshaft, or wheel

it's a Ford, it's supposed to make weird, unexplained noises.

u joint was replaced about 2 years ago...maybe its gone bad again.... theres no exhaust from the mufflers back because of an accident so its not the exhaust....and it sounds like rubbing, but that doesnt explain the noise while its parked.....its in the driveway with windows down and the keys in the ignition...maybe it will just get stolen lol....im gonna go look at it and maybe take the wheel off....but driveshaft or something in the rear is my guess since it only does it when i give it a little gas....if im moving and its making the rubbing sound and i let off the gas it stops...so i dont think its rubbing

Oh, sorry, I missed the part about it doing it while parked, duh on my part.  Is something rubbing th flywheel perhaps, and the gas pedal fluctuations cause the noise to change do to motor torque moving whatever it is away from what ever it is rubbing?  (man, that last part sounds REALLY dumb, but you get the point)

the motor torquing might cause it to rub when its at 1/4 throttle...but now that i think about it...if that was it, wouldnt WOT be louder instead of quiet??

good point, but stranger things have happened.  I guess I was thinking allong the lines of like when you have loose lug nuts, (long story) when giving it gas it is smooth and quiet, when decelerating it is smooth and quiet, but at constant speed it shakes like Hell and sounds like the sky is falling!!!  You know, because the applied force of speeding up or slowing down keeps it from shuddering.  And as for having a flywheel, flexplate-flywheel, you know what I mean.

hmm....maybe ill go look and see what could be rubbing.... just doesnt make sense that it does it in park....if an auto is in P then its not transferring power to the trans right? idk much about how autos work....but if thats the case, then it cant be rear end / driveshaft related....nystang says exhaust might be rubbing somewhere....how that sound? or am i confused about how an aod works

whether or not your auto is in park or drive, the flexplate/flywheel, (whatever you want to call it), and the torque converter are going to be moving.  They spin whenever the engine is running.  But you are correct, that nothing from the tailshaft of the tranny back is moving in park.  Hopefully it soesn't sound like it is coming from the tranny????  Had a band break once, and it made all kinds of goffy racket, but still moved.  (just didn't act quite right)
