Will anyone race me?

crusin92red5.0 -> Will anyone race me? (4/17/2008 10:04:19 PM)

hey i am thinking about putting a roll cage in my vert, but i want people still to race me.  all my buddies say don't do it. its not because of the horsepower which the tear down is in progress... rebuild bottom, hci, and a 100 shot. so maybe 350 to the wheels. its for the fact that i've heard its like night and day when you put one in. the chasis is as stiff as the coupe and hatch's if not better. i hate rail road tracks right now.  i just wanted to know if there is a roll cage that can be undetected from outside the vehicle. like down the door frames and across the lower back seat(which i've taken out)? or do i need to get a custom cage built?
thanks

A "roll cage" gets its name because it will save your life in the event of a rollover [8|] it wouldn't be much use if it were hidden around the perimeter of the open body.

Maybe you're looking for stiffer subframe connectors instead?

Grey Stang is right, and besides racing should be done at the track and if you have a fast enough car a roll cage is a required safety device, just like seatbelts and a helmet. street racing is a great way to lse your ride 4 ever, I know from experience.

You will want a custom rollcage if you want it more on teh unnoticable side. I like to get one as well but I want to have reg access to the back seat.

that will never stiff it up like the coupes or hatches.

a roll bar DOES stiffen up the chassis quite a bit. i was looking at a MM street roll bar. only 260 and looks ok. but im just gonna go with a sytling bar, i dont plan to race the vert...thats what coupes are for lol

A few days ago I got on the highway and got my convertible up to around 120 or 125 mph and I don''t think Ill ever do it again! I just did not feel very safe! You never know what could happen.

 Get the roll bar. Custom ones always fit better but cost more.

Is racing worth it when your prized mustang makes a pizza out of your head if you roll it?

droptop do you have a cage?  i''ve passed the 140 marker and it was indeed scary, but exhilarating at the same time. but i had to jump all three lanes on the curvy highways. i don''t know if i''ll do that again, but everyone should do it atleast once.![:D]

droptop302 -> RE: Will anyone race me? (7/6/2008 7:09:47 PM)

No cage. I was going straight not about to turn at that speed.. Ya it is a rush. I have done it a few times. Cant wait till i lower it.. Top flaps around but i do need a new one lol. Had 5th gear at about 4500rpm even might of hit 160 need a GPS to really see how fast i was going [:D]

Not to mention if you have a roll cage in a street car most of the time it is actually a safety hazard. One of the reasons all racers wear helmets is because in the event of a crash, your head jerks around and can slam into that metal cage keeping your roof from crumpling in. If you get into even a light crash with a roll cage and no helmet, your head can tap one of the bars near your head and you can say bye bye for good.

If you dont say bye bye for good you also can be a Veggie for life.
