I feel like I've made similar postings to this one a hundred times now....

Here's a video LINK-
http://s13.photobucket.com/albums/a263/GTMustang17/?action=view&current=20080419090519.flv

My '98 Cobra has a annoying ticking noise that is extra extra bad when I first start it in the morning when the car is cold.  I recently changed out all 32 of my lifters... so it's not that. I've taken the car to 2 shops for diagnostic... no help. I know you can't help too much without hearing it but I do have a couple questions:

If it was an exhaust leak, and I briefly covered the tailpipes with gloves on, the tick would get louder, right?   Cause I did that and a buddy listened... said there was no difference in the tick.

The engine has been stroked, and only has 4000 mile son it. It's ticked since the first day I started it, but I don"t know if the noise was there before, because I bought it with a bad engine. (Rod Bearing). With a stethescope, I cannot pinpoint it. It sounds like it's everywhere. Any suggestions on where to listen for a typical ticking noise??

I know about the timing chain noise... and I've seen that one dudes video. When he opens his oil cap in the video, the tick gets WAY louder. When I open my oil cap, the noise does NOT change AT ALL. Wouldn't that mean that it's not the timing chain?

This car is extremely nice... and the ticking just kills the fun. I'm so frustrated and I just wish I could run into someone who has had the problem and knows how to fix it. HELP!!!

It has high flow injectors, but I don't know what LB they are, cause I wasn't the one who installed them. I think they're like 36lb. They do tick as they're supposed to, to some extent, and I've listened to them with the scope, but theres no way that is what is so loud. I've run Lucas fuel injector cleaner through it too just in case they were dirty. No dice though.

No I haven't. I've been taking it pretty easy on the car cause 2500 of the miles of the 4000 I put on the engine were break-in period. It's just so weird.

Is there a chance that something is ticking inside my tranny... like the bell housing area? Is there anything around the clutch area that would make a tick noise like that? It almost sounds (with the stethescope) like that's where it's coming from.

If you dis-engage the clutch and sound is still present, it is not the tranny. I guess it could possibly be the throw-out bearing, as it is spinning when clutch is dis-engaged. Put it up on lift, and listen around all underneath. You will find it at some point.

              Good luck. Jazzer

OK, are you referring to the kinda high-pitched intermitten sound? If so, it is NOT an internal sound, and RPM is not consistant with it. I would check a belt or fan blade rubbing on something.
