I spent a few hours looking for a cai that would fit a 428R (basically a stage 3 roush) but couldn't really find one and when i thought i found a compatible one it said it required a tune?? is that true that you need a tune for a cai? So does anyone know where i can buy a CAI for a s197 supercharged roush? and what other mods can be done to this car to um... make it faster?? As much as i wish i dont own this car but my friend does and if i help him make it faster he'll let me drive it
A new tune is a MUST on any CAI that is put on a Roushcharged mustang. I don't have one yet on mine but it appears that most go with the Steeda CAI. That is what I am going to do to my 2007 Stage 3. Again, a new tune is a MUST and will void your engine warranty with any CAI.
Most CAI's won't fit a Mustang with a Roush supercharger because the intake tube goes to the left side for the inlet on the supercharger. Standard S197 CAI's won't it. You would have to get one with custom tubing to make it fit.
Um....the Roushcharger has a cold air intake on it right from Roush.
Edit: Only pic I have off hand, but you can sort of see it. Uses the stock filter location, then wraps around to the TB onthe passanger side of the blower.

Thers a kit out there that includes a CAI, smaller pulley, plugs and a tune. It puts down 420-425 rwhp, up from 370 rwhp for $1k or 1,400 installed if you live in So. Cal.
Smaller pulley requires a re-tune by Roush. Mine is waiting for me when I get back to the states; have to pull the Computer and send it to Roush after the install.
I was also told by Roush that headers and CAI will void the warranty...among their claim that headers won't add hp to the car. Hey, don't shoot the messenger, that's what they told me! I asked why Roush doesn't sell headers and they said that after extensive testing, it doesn't show any improvement. I'll call 5 or 6 more times when I get back just to make sure that it's true...hopefully, I'll be able to talk with someone different.
