how hard is it to replace the clutch? how expensive? what about the throw bearing? i have noises coming from th etranny only when the clutch pedal is in so i think i have a problem.. shes got 61K miles on her and i think it might be time ... if i do replace the clutch, would it be worth getting a stage 3 since im going F/I this summer hopefully? thanks!

Depends on how savvy you are. Could be hard, could be easy. I'm doing this in the next few months along with a tranny rebuild. But a new clutch is at least a couple hundred dollars in itself.

Any time you replace the clutch and especially with 61000 miles you ALWAYS replace the throwout bearing and I suspect the noise you hear is the bearing .You want to do that job once and right the first time so you don't have to go back in .Get a clutch kit ,which is clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing (or you can reuse the old one , the old one can be machined if there are deep grooves,also check flywheel ) There are 2 sides to the clutch ,It may be marked .Make sure you use just enough hi temp grease on the bearing inner groove and fork fingers.Make sure flywheel and pressure plate are very clean of oil or grease. You will also need a clutch alignment tool.

Jason, before you buy, check out the stage 2 clutch kit for V6s. Very good system. It'll handle your FI with no problem. You might want to consider replacing your steel flywheel with an aluminum one. Shed some rotational mass. Good time to also install that highly coveted aluminum Shaftmasters 3 1/2 inch drive shaft. Here a website to checkout the Spec clutch system. thanks for the help guys! im pretty savvy with mechaninc work, but ive never done a clutch. this is my first 5spd ive owned, you think i could do this myself? it would save me BIG on labor and since im looking at a bout 500 already i need to save every penny haha.

The SPEC 2 is the clutch I will be ordering shortly (and the above link is a decent price - especially if you get the Mustang Forums discount from AM). I'm just waiting on the alum flywheel to arrive at my doorstep later this month ;)

They worked great on go carts....
