Default 96 V-6 to 5.0 Swap Help please

<FONT face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" color=black size=2>Hello,</FONT></P>

<FONT face=Arial size=2>I am a new member, registered today. I own a 96, V6, 3.8 and am looking to purchase a friends 5.0 which was wrecked but the engine is still in good cond.</FONT></P>

<FONT face=Arial size=2>His car is a 93'. I am wanting any information that you can help me on this. I intend on keeping my tranny (AOD) for now, it was just rebuilt. The rear was too, but it is a 7.5 and I will keep his 8.8. What I am more concerned with is if there will be any kind of modifications required, or whether I will ahve to change anything like my braking system, suspension, or anything like that.</FONT></P>

<FONT face=Arial size=2>Should I rebuild the engine now? or do I just swap it out and worry about it later?</FONT></P>

<FONT face=Arial size=2>Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.</FONT></P>

post in the 5.0 section and more people will look at it. Rebuilding the engine depends on the condition that it's in and exactly what you want to do to it. As far as the transmission goes, I believe that the AOD 3.8 tranny is different than the one that hooks up to the 5.0 engine, so you may have some problems there.

I think that the AOD trannys are the same. But this is where you get really harry. Your going to be having to go back and fourth between 5.0 engine and 3.8 hookups, and also 94-95 GTs and 96-98 GTs and tranny to engine and rear end, and so on and so fourth. Not that big of a deal. What you can check to see if the AOD is coherent is that if the AOD that went into the 95 5.0 stang, is the same that went into the 96 4.6 stang, as well as the 96 3.8 stang. If they are all the same, then you have no worries. Which actually might be the case. But in terms of 5 speeds, I'm positive that the trannys are different (T45 and T5). Be sure you're getting everything you need from the guy in terms of electronics and stuff; and also when you buy performance stuff, it should work out fine that you buy for a 94-95 5.0, but check to be sure. Hope this helped, good luck. </P><edited><editID>95Stealth302</editID><editDate>37947.0893634259</editDate></edited>

Buy a GT 5.0...get rid of the V6 and just pay for a nice 5.0. If you look in the right places you will find a great price. Get a 5spd 5.0. From what I have heard AOD trannys are s**t and no offense, but I am no fan of the V6. It will be more worth it to go ahead and get a diff. car, don't waste all of that time.
