Lol, yea not totally...  The price of corn is something like 150% more expensive now because Ethanol is growing a lot.  Add on a little bit because of gas prices, throw on inflation...

Get a better job then if you are bitching about being poor...   All the sympathy I can muster.

Isn't McCain trying to cut the taxes on gas anyways?

I heard something.
But anyone who suggests cutting gas taxes, local or national level, is retarded.

It'll cut maybe 15-20 cents off a gallon, and cost millions of tax revenue.

Not worth it in my mind, and I HATE paying these prices.

Essentially, it's just a quick sort of 'look at me' move. With no real long term help.

I'm a ex-military vet and currently for almost the last twenty years a police officer and yes I am poor and if you don't like me complaining fine but I will be honest and if I'm not kissing your ass then so be it.  Yeah I don't know why the President doesn't let us go into the reserves and have each state suspend gas taxes for the duration of the summer into the fall.  I may sound like a minority here but something is going to give because the average guy is making enough to go to work and back.  **** that.

I live in one of the lowest wage states in the country.  I don't know a single person who can't drive to work and back because of gasoline prices.

Nah, I don't mind you ranting on the internet, but when you are bringing up wishing you made extra cash, I will be happy to tell you how.

Anyways, 70k a year isn't that bad lol.  I know people who do just fine on 50-60ish combined income.

Save 30 cents a gallon and lower our reserves?

eh, no thanks..

then, at the end of that fall, when gas is 3.90 a gallon with all these cuts, it'll jump back up and pepole will freak out again..

Ok I'm not gaining any friends here and I don't need suggestions on how to make extra money because I work a lot of extra , you know overtime too.  I can say honestly that I was better off 10 years ago making less.  Yeah I didn't go to college but I have made some sacrfices for my country and in my opinion I know the middle class is getting smaller by the day.  Hell soon we will be like either poor or rich.  Maybe we'll be a third world country.

I want to know why the government is still subsiding these oil companies that are making record profits each year!!!  I directly blame the oil companies and the Americans that have to depend on them!

I'm going to start running alcohol exclusively... at least the corn money is going back into the local economy....

LOL "blame the oil companies"

Exxon made 40 billion in profits last year.  On over 400 billion in REVENUES.  Even if they dumped their entire profit margin on domestic gasoline sales it would at best get you a 10% reduction in gasoline prices.

I don't think anyone likes to pay for higher gas prices. And if you are, you are probably one of the happiest people on the planet. But there isn't a lot the average person can do except complain until something gets done. Which is supposed to be how things get done in America in the first place. They arn't that high where the majority of people are having to severly adjust their life style to compensate for rising gas prices. There really is no real simple way to fix gas prices...Suspending the gas tax might save you $5 a tank, but once its done, you'll go back to spending that on gas. If solving our economy's problems were easy, there wouldn't be a problem. So we just need to bear with it until it is totally outrageous and everyone is pissed off.

Since one of the reasons gas prices are so high is because refineries can only produce so much product. With the high demand of petroleum, the only way to lower prices is to cut the demand.

The only real way I can think of to lower prices of gas is to get the other industries that require petroleum products to find alternate sources of fuel or whatever they use it for. Essentially cut the demand for petroleum in every venu besides automotive petroleum products. Refineries can maintain a higher supply of automotive grade gas and lubricants, thus lowering prices across the entire spectrum...Just my idea.

Duke that's what I'm saying Sir.  With the prices of gas it trickles down and affects the rest of the economy like groceries, health care, utilities, luxuries and so on.  It's all connected.  Whether gas goes down or not something will have to budge somewhere.

Yea the prices of grocerys is only going up because of the gas prices...Trucks deliver everything to the stores and with them costing over $1000 to fill up their tanks their delivery fees are going up. But that is just the circle of life...prices of everything goes up in life...old people still arnt mad because they cant get a hamburger for a nickel. It just takes time for people to realize that its just life...and to stfu.

The best way to cut gasoline prices is to cut consumption.  As someone pointed out already petroleum products go into a lot more than gasoline.  We need to cut down on plastics for instance.

Selling off the V8 powered car and getting into something more fuel efficient.  Carpool.  Walk or bike if you can.  Mass transit.  Just plain drive less.  Those are the best ways to cut gasoline consumption at the individual level.
