Default 351 Cleveland Engine

I have a 1970 Stang Convertible, the 351 engine is running extremely hot in one spot, have had the engine chemically flushed but has not fixed the problem. My mechanic has advised replacing the engine rather than dropping the head off. Has anyone had a problem with a hot block before?
