5.0L V8 could return in 2010 MustangFiled under: Sports/GTs, Ford, RumormillThe pressure is on now for Ford, which has had the ponycar market to itself for the better part of a decade. With the return of the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger, Ford will surely be stepping up the Mustang's performance when it receives a makeover for 2010. In an interview with stuff.co.nz, Bill Osborne, President of Ford Australia, claims that Ford is considering using a 5.0L V8 for the new Falcon - the same engine being developed for the upcoming Mustang. While nothing has been officially confirmed by Ford, this is further evidence that the 5.0 will be making a return since it was dropped from the Mustang back in 1995. Assuming the 5.0 V8 will be available for the 2010 Mustang, there are many questions that still remain. It's possible the 5.0 could become standard, but it could also be reserved for use in a special edition Mustang like a Boss or Mach 1. There is also the question of how the engine is being developed. The simplest answer is that it will be based on the current modular V8 architecture and could be a stroked version of the 4.6L V8. We would love to see something similar to the 5.0 V8 in the Saleen Parnelli Jones Limited Edition Mustang that we sampled last year. With 400 bhp and 390 lb-ft of torque, it was a smooth and powerful engine that suited the Mustang well. [Source: Stuff.co.nz via MustangEvolution.com]

That's still nothng official. I don't see it having 400hp if it does happen, either....

Not trying to be pestimistic, but I don't see it 'confirmed' anywhere. There are multiple loose words such as 'assuming', and 'Ford will surely be stepping up'. That is just someone's opinion. It would be nice, and it is obtainable for Ford at this point, but it is still not 'confirmed'.

I think I'm gonna do '.' some more.

'Excellent'. 'yAy'. 'Sweet'.

That would be awsome if it made 400hp, that would make GM engines look obsolete, as they need a whole liter to make the same amount of power. There is alot more power potential out of OHC engines versus the pushrods GM uses.

That would be awesome, but I won't hold my breath.

I don't understand why Ford doesn't allow buyers to special order a different motor, like in the 60's. Back then you had several different choices. (302,351,390, yada yada yada) It sucks that today if you want something differentfrom the factory(other than the 3 valve4.6 V-8) you have to spend 20 grand more on a Shelby GT 500. It would be great to be able to go to the dealer and order a GT from the factory and pay acouple grand extrafor the 4 valve 4.6 or 5.4.

if they bring back the 5.0 in 2010 than as soon as i get out of college than i know what i'll get one hands down. They should at least let it make 350 or more. luckily the stang is 500 pounds liter than the camaro and the challenger.

here's an interesting post from a "reliable" insider. Supposedly he was right on with s197 and the gt500 project. its a pretty good read. seems to know his stuff even though he's a little arrogant.
