I finally decided to turn down an $80K a year job down in PA. I interviewed for it a couple weeks ago at the Tobyhanna Army Depot and they came back and offered me a position last week for third shift. I would love to move back east but I can't just take that job. Its an electronic tech/repairer job but its so one dimensional, mostly isolating faults on circuit cards, I can't imagine myself doing that for 8 hours a day. Hey I'm still young with no dependents, I can be an idealist. But I can't help but feel a little down turning down such a big paycheck, anybody else done something like this?

3rd shift is the best!

V-6 is for real drivers. Go buy a Jetta if you want gas mileage and a chicks car. Buy a V-8 Mustang if you have no driving ability and need the extra horsepower to compensate and feel like you''''''''re fast.
I would have to agree with zanador. Taking a job that you hate just for the money is only something you should do IF YOU HAVE TO. If you don't have to, than you will feel much more rich with your quality of life than the size of your check.

yeah, thats pretty sweet thinking. a lot of people that wouldn't understand would be like 'DUDE WTF I WOULD HAVE TAKEN IT IF I WERE YOU'....
just make sure whatever job you do for 20-30-40 years doesn't suck, and makes money for a decent living.

Yeah I figured my sanity and at least halfway enjoying what I do was worth more than that raise. At least this leaves me open to look for other jobs that I may like too. If I had a family I had to support the story would have been different. Hell I'm only 22, I still have time, and what 22 year old makes 80K a year?

Im being trained to learn GIS. I hate GIS, it sucks, its boring, no creativity, its just making maps , but you can get paid over 100k if your a really good GIS Analyst, but all it does is just pay the bills

I know what you mean. I was trained in tactical satellite communications. Trained in everything from electronic principles to survival school with SERE. That job would mean I'm stuck indoors and doing only one small aspect of my job, rather not.

I know where you're coming from. When I left the Marines, I went straight into a job that paid $53,000 per year. I was 22 making that kind of money. I worked it for a bit and decided to move back home. Now I work at Best Buy making $9.50/hr, not even a quater of what I was making up in DC. But at least I'm happy.
I know what you feel like because, hey, I feel the same way. But in the end, it was probably a better idea to be happy than to just have money be the only thing keeping you sane:)
BTW, if anyone knows of a job in the Charlotte area using a Top Secret Clearance, shoot me a PM! What? I never said I would like to be making that type of money again
