I 've got a question for you. I have the L.E.D. underglow kit and was trying to find how to bring in 12 volts from the (lights that come on when you hit your key pad) Courtesy dome lights)
I tried taking readings from the dome lights when they come on but it seems they have 12 volts on them all the time. And use some varied voltages from the smart junction box to activate them. I guess they switch the ground or use electronics .  Anyway my underglow lights work fine how they are wired now
but they have a seperate input lead you can wire to you alarm and one wire to your courtesy lights.  any Ideas? how to use the white lead that will bring me voltage off of my dome lights?

ford likes to use negative trigger doors, which would explain your voltage with the light off but this is of course assuming you had the doors closed.

Either way one (input)  lead was staying hot. As you say the trigger must come from the negitive side. But if i hook a relay up and keep it hot but trigger the negitive side it will (might) just work.          ????The light comes on bright when you start open the door or hit the keypad and once you are inside the car, door closed the light kinda fades like it should.
But  I am worried that the load from the relay may be more than the smart junction box would like. causing me more exspensive problems.

you should not need a relay.  You will connect the posative wire for the underglow to a +12v constant source(not the wire you are testing), and then ground the other side to the wires you DID measure +12v on with the lights off.  When the door is open, that wire will go to ground(ground trigger) and your underglow will light up.  If you are using led's the current draw should be low enough to not be a problem to not need a relay.  You will need to diode isolate the wire from the dome light if you also want the underglow to come on with your parking lights and not light up the dome light.  IT is not hard.
