Getting Ready to Pull the Trigger
But the darn insurance is bothering me. I looked into Hagerty, Grundy, and American Hobbyist and all will only insure if you sign a declaration that the vehicle will never be driven to work or errands. Progressive wants $1700 per year..On the other hand, if I insure it as a GT, I am taking a huge gamble on taking a potential loss in the event of an accident or theft...
What has everyone else done? I want to be able to drive the darn thing after I spend all this money... |
RE: Getting Ready to Pull the Trigger
try a collectors or second car (low miles) insurance. I said its my weekend car and got my Jeep as my daily. I have AAA insurance.

RE: Getting Ready to Pull the Trigger
I looked into that, but the only problem is you can't drive it to work or on an errand. With 2 kids under 6 the only driving I GET to do is back and forth to work and errands. Weekend "cruising" time is just not available...

RE: Getting Ready to Pull the Trigger
i would highly suggest not insuring it as just a GT. I had a 1998 Saleen and insured it as a GT and 1 1/2 years later i get into a 4 car crash on Highway 4 in Cali and even though it was not my fault, my insurance wouldn't cover any damage priced over the KBB price of a regular 1998 Mustang GT. You can imagine how much steam i was blowing out of my ears at the time.
I know everyone thinks it can't happen to them, and certainly you never want it to. But life throws weird **** at you, and youd hate for your baby to have to go through that haha. |
RE: Getting Ready to Pull the Trigger
I go through State Farm insurance and the day I picked up the Car I went to the office and they photo copied my Dealership Bill of Sale and the window sticker. About $51K at the time in 04. They know its my weekend car and that I put very limited miles on it., my dd is a 07 Avalanche and so I feel I am covered. The other thing to do is get the car professionaly appraised to assgn a value to it. Now if your driving it 20K miles a year that may not be worthwhile. But I think there are ways for you to get the necessary coverage you need and have it at a fair rate and be able to enjoy the car as well for the reasons you bought it.
Also how old are you? That will play into the equation and do you have other cars insured through a particular carrier? |

RE: Getting Ready to Pull the Trigger
i have USAA and i just had to show proof of what the car is. faxed them window stickers, pictures, and letter of authenticity from saleen. Just in case I bought gap insurance as well when i purchased the car.

RE: Getting Ready to Pull the Trigger
If you are financing the vehicle then you might be fine with GAP insurance. It all depends on what you can tolerate in terms of risk.

RE: Getting Ready to Pull the Trigger
Don't feel bad Eric, I am in the process of switching over my Saleen (leaving my other two cars on our currentNationwide policy) to an alternative carrier and got turned down by one of the above. One of the main reasons....because I listed that I drove it to work anywhere from oncea weektotwo weeks.
These insurance companies/underwritersare total fools to think that someone that list on their application they drive their cars to "where ever" only on weekendsfor "pleasure" are any safer than someone like me or youdrivingour Saleens to work every now again and parking it in a covered parking deck, away from other cars with security guards walking the garage periodically. I told the women from the insurance company that their total liabilityfor receiving my year's premium (free money basically)involved me putting approximately 1500 miles on a carthat I'm super anal about....you can't find too manydifferent places to park other than your own garage putting that many miles on a car a year. An example of total business sense ignorance at its finest[:@]. |
RE: Getting Ready to Pull the Trigger
I was told I can't drive to work and still be covered. I said I work from Home... Dooohhhh
j/k I have never had limitations put on me from an insurance perspective as to where I can drive or don't drive. That is all self induced. I never go to the Mall, or movies with it or a place where it is really out of my sight. Imaybe go to Chiles or something like that once or twice during the summer. The other times are to car shows and just a nice leisurely cruise once in awhile. Hence the 750 miles or so a year I am averaging after 2 years of ownership.http://www.mustangforums.com/micons/m10.gif Yes Jazzer I already know your response to this... Silly Rabbit.... Saleens are meant to be driven..... |
