Olivarez -> Rear Gears question!!! (4/14/2008 7:22:40 PM)

I have 4.30's and they are great for n/a cars. I am at about 3000rpms on the 80mph and when I try I can still average 20 mpg.Im not sure what you mean "as what this ratio does rather then this ratio will help alot "  Changing the rear axle ratio will give you better acceleration from multiplying your torque and getting your engine into that sweet spot quicker. Hope that helps some.

i've got 4.10s and the mileage and rpms are about the same. I would stick with 4.10s or 4.30s if it were my car

Olivarez -> RE: Rear Gears question!!! (4/22/2008 7:33:03 PM)

Thanks....whats the differents between the 4.10s and 4.30s?

.20   lol

^lol............There really isnt much difference, they both hit 80mph around 3000rpms. Its up to you though. The general opinion is that if you are goin with forced induction in the near future go with 4.10s, 3.90s, or 3.73s. If not then go 4.10s or 4.30s  Good Luck!

If staying N/A, I vote to go 4.56 or 4.88.  I think 4.30 is the steepest you can go w/ a stock carrier though.

baino -> RE: Rear Gears question!!! (4/24/2008 6:59:44 AM)

^man, I dont think I would go that far with my daily driver.

jlg32281 -> RE: Rear Gears question!!! (4/24/2008 12:30:42 PM)

I would if I could afford it.  Am I right about 4.30 being the steepest w/ a stock carrier?  Poll people w/ 4.56's and see if they like them.  Everyone I've talked to that has them, loves them.  I even know a guy that is FI w/ 4.56.  It's pretty mean.  He had to do a T56 swap because the T45 1st gear was just pointless.  No gas when you let off the clutch. lol.

thanks for your help.......ya i can do math Ehmark.....lol.....

jlg32281 -> RE: Rear Gears question!!! (5/6/2008 1:17:16 PM)

So, what gear did you choose?

RuffCat -> RE: Rear Gears question!!! (5/7/2008 4:30:11 PM)

 I have 3:73 and when my stock posi burns out I'm putting in 4:10's. I don't want or need the 4:30's. Well okay, I don't want the 4:30's...lol as far as 4:56's or steepr, just remember the steeper you go, the more likely your engine is to have failure because of so much more rpm's it's runnin on a constant basis

SVTeeshirt -> RE: Rear Gears question!!! (5/8/2008 12:34:47 PM)

testing my signature

fail, i give up.

Ehmark -> RE: Rear Gears question!!! (5/8/2008 1:17:22 PM)

The engine should still last plenty long. For example trucks have similar gear ratios and the still make it 150k+ so dont scare people away from gears lol.

big hammer -> RE: Rear Gears question!!! (5/11/2008 6:40:24 PM)

my buddy wants to put lower gears in his 86 cobra, to try to keep up to my ws6....   lol!   what do they come with stock with the 5 speed, and how do 4:10's or 4:30's affect fuel mileage?  his car is stock except for exhaust with no cats.
