well i was talking to my father and he said that rubbing compound gives te same effect as a claybar

is this right??

No. Rubbing compound will remove layers of clear coat and paint.

A claybar simply pulls contaminants off your paint and strips wax.

what he said^^^^   rubbing compound will horribly mess up your paint if you dont know what you are doing.  its much harder to mess up with a clay bar.  and they both serve two completely different purposes.

Like Dan said. Two different things. Apples and oranges! Each are two different steps in a 3 or 4 step exterior detail.
