Well im about to get my 65 a week from today:). But it is just a regular coupe. Soo since the Shelby are so darn sexy im turning it into a GT-350 clone.
I am trying to decide what color to paint it. It HAS to base black. So was there any black with stripes other than white?
I like the gold stripes of the Hertz, but wouldnt that be kinda odd? A 65 shelby Hertz replica :p
Also, did the 65 have the brake scoops? Cause I LOVE those.

Hold on lol im retarded.
Shelby build the Hertz didnt he?
So I suppose it wouldnt be that odd.

If you're going for a clone, and it has to be black, I'm afraid you're stuck with the Hertz colors of black with gold stripes. Pretty sure all the other Shelby's were white with blue stripes or vice-versa.

Sorry for the triple post.
Does the Hertz have anything different besides the paint and engine.
Im trying to make it close to the real thing, without braking the bank.
Im getting the shelby hood, brake scoops, and the freaking awesome tach pod. Then redo the interior in black, and brushed aluminum.

dont shelby clone it... not on a coupe. All of us guys that know mustangs go to shows (at least I do ) and sit and be like wow, there were no real shelby coupes...
Build it to be what you WANT dont go for a exact clone. If you want this body kit, this engine, whatever. paint it black with flat black stripes or something. But dont go for an exact repro...
Build it what you want it to be.

Dude I'm 21... know what its like to not make $100,000 a year.
Build the car you WANT.
I'm not trying to insult, but if I saw the coupe at a show or cruising around, chances are good that based off my past experiences, I would turn to my fiance and say "Whats wrong with that car?" and she'd say "God. I'm tired of this bull**** game, but clearly there were no shelby coupes"
And plan how you want, I have been through 7 Mustangs since i was 12. You need money, you have lquid assets. Trust me. Ain't much fun, and you regbret it later, but I'm pretty pleased with ownng a 70 mach and a 65 coupe for the fiance, when i started with a 67 coupe nline 6.....
Make a custom car. Not excessively so, but make changes you want. Black with black, black with cream, whatever....
Its your car, i'm just providing my .02

Ok, hows about black with gold stipes, shelby hood, brake scoops, cool tach pod, and NO shelby emblems. All regular emblems. This way it just looks like a highly modified coupe, with good taste.

Who says you can't do a black car with gold stripes and not put GT-350H on the side? Frankly unless you actually went the distance to put all the GT parts and components on it I don't think it's right to put GT-anything on the side. Copy the paint scheme and parts and components all you want, but until you've got it completely done, keep the GT badging off of it, besides, it's not really a huge deal to not have those letters and numbers on the side- especially since it's a coupe.

i found a company that sells color changing paint thinking about doing the whit to black paint then it would be deifferent colors depending on the temps

what i don't get is that your transforming a coupe into a kinda shelby thing and at the same time you're worried what people might think about a hertz colour combination on that :-)
do whatever you like! and the suggestion below sounds like a nice idea

aye. those stripes are awesome. I will stay away from those go-faster-stripes myself as people over here recognise this and fart-cans as quick car and I would have to put up with all those boyracer bolloxes at the traffic light.
I'm considering those nice stripes at the rocker panel though. like them ;-)

I'm particularly fond of the E2 body kit. I think it just looks badass, except for the two fog lights outside of the grill next to the headlights. IMO you should just go somewhat Shelby, no Cobra badges, in fact no badges at all if you want something really clean looking. Check out this car and tell us what you think.
shelby didnt make coupesor hertzes in 65, so why limit yourself to hertz color schemes?
why not pinch the body bits you want (the early shelby hood scoops look so tough on any 65/66 car) and paint it in your own scheme.
Black with silver looks great and you wouldnt be doing a half a$$ed clone then.
Black with charcoal, black with matt black, black with....?

that picture is my background. everywhere. home, work, and school. Best car I have seen in a long time.
to the OP: our cars will end up being long lost twins or something. I have VERY similar plans. Definitely black, as henry ford said, "you can have any color, so long as its black". I cant decide on stripes tho.
Really tho, just make it what you want. Dont worry about what ppl are gonna think, its not their car. I would agree not to do the clone thing tho. Unless you are doing an exact replica, I wouldnt go through the trouble... Just build a restomod that is what you want.

Pick a color and modifications that suit YOU. To consider what the "mustang community" might think of your choices is pointless. It's your car. Have fun with it. I guess when I decided to add a diffrent front valance, hood, aluminum heads, MSD ignition, battery mounted in trunk, Versailles rear...blah blah blah... I made a few folks cringe. Oh well.... and on top of that, I painted it a really cool tri-stage white (like you see on new Lexus').... It looks unbelievable...(to me anyway!)... Point is, do it your way.
i found a company that sells color changing paint thinking about doing the whit to black paint then it would be deifferent colors depending on the temps
Oh yeah!?!
Well the other day I saw a Mustang and a Camaro that not only changed colors, but that stood up and turned into giant robots to battle over humanity!
... oh wait.

I guess I should let you guys know something while I am still kinda new here. Im a "ricer", I prefer Tuner, at heart. I hate the fast amd the furious looking guys. And Rims should never go bigger the 16 MAYBE 17 inches. And cans are ment for coffee, not cars.

So we're clear what i'm saying and noone gets offended, we had the GM show here last weekend.
Imagine the 4 door version of the Pontiac GTO in base v6 Automatic bog stock boring family taxicab...
add giant wheels (chrome ghetto style) but leave the weedy little single pot calipers and stock rotors under all 4 wheels.
Add biiiiiiiiig chrome tips to your stock v6 exhaust.
Then eat a pizza and drink a quart of blue food dye. Once mixed in your guts, open the hood and throw up all over the rocker covers and plastic panel that covers the fuel injection stuff.
Wait for all the car show crowd to go wild over your creation....NOT[:'(]

i think you have what im talking about confused with khameleon paint ?
this paint im talking about would basically be white in the morning while its cool and in the afternoon the stripes would turn black from sitting in the sun all day
Consider a silver, or a charcoal set of stripes. They would look sharp.
