My check engine light came on, do I have to go to an authorized Saleen dealer to have the car worked on or can a regular Ford dealership service department handle it? My nearest Saleen dealership is at least 85 miles away The car is an 06 N/A with 2,300 miles.
Yes, just make sure they email me at techline@saleen.com so I can email them the procedure to access the PCM. If not, there is a possibility of blanking out the PCM.
Teamgsxr, is your yes to: I have to go to a Saleen dealer or a regular Ford dealer can do it? I actually just got back from my local Ford dealer and they said they couldn't get thier computer to comunicate with the car. They kind of worried me a little when the service adviser said "what is a Saleen?" He said he's never heard of them I got the owners manual out and looked up the indicator light that is on and it looks to be the emissions control indicator. Kinda looks like a motor. So if any ford service department can do the work and all they need to do is email you then I'll try that. Thanks for the quick reply!!
First I'd just go to a chain auto parts store and have them read the code. It may have nothing to do with the PCM. For example if your gas cap isn't put on tightly, that can throw a code. It might be something where you can just get the light reset and not have to worry about actually correctingthe problem.
I would try Polk's advice first ;-), then, if necesary, drive the 85 miles. If the dealer is a good one it is SO worth it.
My closest Ford dealer can't even change the oil on my car (too low for their lift), but the Saleen dealer 40 minutes farther away is knowledgable and friendly, and treats my car extremely well --it's parked inside near the service manager's desk and driven only by the Saleen-trained mechanic who works on it.

If this just if they're going to update the PCM, or can they really not plug in and read a code?
Unhook your negative battery terminal for a minute then put it back on. Then pretend like nothing happened.
Yeah, I tried that twice and it came back on after driving it a few times. I guess I'll just schedule an apointment with the Saleen dealer and maybe they can fix my squeaky brakes at the same time! Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it very much!
You can go to any Ford dealer as long as they are willing to work on a Saleen. If they are not familiar with using an IDS on a Saleen, just have them email me.

Just what I was thinking. Why wouldn't just a code reader be the trick here?
+1. I had a check engine light that came on and read the code. It turned out to be a bad O2 sensor. If you have an N/A, then odds are that it might be something that has little to do with the saleen tune and any dealer can fix it.
If you're close enough to a saleen dealer, though....go ahead and take the extra trip. At least you can get an idea of what service they provide.
