Hahaha, the 97 GT wasn't anything fast by any means. Whats the deal with the transmissions getting shredded even with stock power?
Oh wait, you also said they kept right up with the Cobra? How do they do that with less power and a 4 speed auto?

hunterd557, the modded GTP's you raced probably just had an intake or something. Back in 1997 when a GTP was first supercharged it would rape a mustang GT in stock form and even keep right up with a cobra. Even back in 1993 when GTP's just had the 3.4 liter dual overhead cam motor they would still rape a 5.0 stang.

1. It's good you think your cars fast, but don't try and convinve us by saying you spent this amount on mods and it should run this, show us with a time slip. Once you hit the track you will be very disappointed on what you see. Most people who haven't raced at the track in their life don't hit their best possible times till numerous visits and even then not all of them hit the best possible times do to track/weather conditions. And don't tell me in June or July that it's snowing in Nebraska and you can't hit a track. Excuses, excuses. Why own a "fast" car and have to live in a snowy area that's cold and hard to drive it like it was meant to be driven in?
2. Stop picking on neons and blue. As you stated, stock for stock they are faster than you, even from a dig which is there weak spot. As stated, I don't know why your trying to fight with blue, probably b/c you think a neon is uglier than a gtp and F/I-V6>F/I-4 which obviously isn't true in this case of car comparisons for numerous reasons, one being a $5k price tag difference in favor of the SRT-4.
3. 1997 GTP VS 1997 Mustang GT is a drivers race with a nod to the gt, not a raping by the GTP. And if you think a 93GTP could take a 5.0 your smoking something. 5.0's are faster than the 1997 mustang gt's and the 97 gt's are a drivers race with 97 gtp's.
4. Over 95% of the GTP's on the road (even lightly modded ones) are a joke to be considered fast. They are a monte carlo ss with a different body style. High 14's stock and can see high 13's with some dough. High 13's modded isn't something to brag about. F-bodies can see flat 13's stock, New Edge GT's can see high 13's stock, and S197 GT's can see mid 13's stock. Those are the major basic muscle cars of the past 10yrs and your car needs to see a good bit(not a lot) of money into it to even be close to them in a race. That's 100% of the V8 2 door american muscle cars in the last 10yrs that will put at least 95% of the GTP's to shame. That's why GTP's aren't thought of as fast and don't get respect. Who cares about roots if it doesn't have power or respectability.
Just think about these things.

I love it, this is so much fun, it's like, we all know we're right and he's the only one who is wrong. Ahhhhh, it's almost satisfying knowing how wrong he is.
I only wish that he lived closer to me so I could invite him to a track day.

I can only imagine how funny it would be to see his face after the first run at a track and he sees his time slip for the first time. He'll be expecting 12's and not know what to make of a high 13 (at best) and probably a 14 second slip.

It doesnt matter when the car was introduced- fact is what you got. cars change. pretty sure your car isnt equal to this:
I can think of 3 big differences:
lets see.....V8, RWD, and.....oh yeah! its cool, unlike yours which can be mistaken for the one grandma drives.
heritage? yeah, they do- the V8, full size ones. the rear wheel drive ones. has the GTP your bragging about done any real racing? scca, trans am, drag, NASCAR? no? suure, they were in NASCAR....oh, wait, those are just names on fiberglass.
heritage? your 'mighty' GTP has nothin.

I don't know about the rest of you, but directly as a result of this thread
1) I'm selling my S197
2) I'm picking up a GTP
3) I'll throw 800 bones to run 12s.
4) I will have enough leftover to pay the psychologist to console me after making the terrible mistake of ever buying a mustang in the first place.

Why would you even bring up Grand Prix heritage on a Mustang forum.  One more battle your sure to lose. A Corvette guy wants to talk heritage fine but You drive a front drive 4 door. just like a neon. Yeaaaaa thats way cooler.

I say, lets invite him to a drag strip, let Blue Beast just destroy him, then we'll take him over to a road course and I'll run a faster lap than him . . . . in his own car. I can almost guarantee that if I drive my father's Grand Prix around Road Atlanta it'll post a faster lap time than this moron in his GTP.

ill put 5 grand on my v6 mustang whooping your gtp's ass. oh and thats on an engine with no internal work, no heads, no cams, no valvetrain work.
you car dont run **** until it does. and i promise it wont be 12s.
0-100 in 14 seconds, LMAO. I can granny shift my car 0-100mph in less than 8 seconds now.

to mr. GTP-
ive raced a lot of gtp's one that was pullied and tuned with a few bolt-ons..... and wow it barely hung with my car when I was BONE STOCK... not to mention this was from a roll when he was in boost and not from a real race (this is a DEAD STOP since you have no idea what real racing is).... went to the drag strip. another gtp with a pulley on drag radials none the less.... oh ya stomped that guy when i was STOCK by about 3-4 car lengths.......
GTP's can be made fast but with a few bolt ons they are by no means fast... and with no proof, your comments don't mean ****.
on another note. you obviously have NO clue what it is like to be in a car that can REALLY LAUNCH if you say you can launch your car well. because your 60's will suck balls at the track and thats even with your auto that requires no skill to drive. just press and go.
If you would like to come over to Iowa when I'm home sometime or I would even be glad to drive all the way over to Omaha to videotape me raping your car all day long. If you want to prove yourself here is your chance. but you probably are barely hitting puberty and won't want to but that's ok it shows what GTP drivers are made of.
