recently re-aquired my very first car. an 1983 GLX 5.0 convertable. the top just will not come up the last 1-2 inches. it is only 3years old. it seems like when it was installed it was too tight. is there any way to adjust??

i know that on my 94 the top has always stopped a couple of inches short of the windshield frame and i just pull it from there. it helps to keep the fabric tight because it stretches it a little from this point.  is it too tight for you to pull it down and latch it?  if the motor would take it all the way to the frame then the top is probably looser than it should be and will show wrinkles.

i can not even pull it down all the way. only if it has been sitting in the sun all day. that is why i think it is the canvas, not the frame, or pump.

yeah...it sounds like the canvas may be too tight.  the only way i could think to fix it would be to take off all the staples around the back, and let a little bit more slack in it, and then staple them all back.  did it just start doing this or did the previous owner have the same issue?
