I was looking at an old article in Modded Mustangs and came across this.

Any truth to the rumours?

"To power the 2009 Ford Mustang GT, Ford will either stick with the current 4.6L 3-valve V8 engine, or upgrade to the 4.6L 4-valve V8 and possibly the 5.4L 4-vavle V8 engine. With the growing fuel crunch, how is ford supposed to market a larger and more powerful powertrain?"

"Ford will go with DOD (Displacement on Demand) technology, an innovation that, at cruise rpms, can shut down 4 of the 8 cylinders to drastically improve fuel economy, but at higher rpms, the computer will throw the car back into power mode! Overall horsepower is again expected to be at or above the 300 mark, and wouldn’t it be nice to have 300 horsepower at 30+mpg?"

No powertrain changes for '09.

they've tried DOD before and it never worked well... the only way I would want that is if I could control it with a switch.... not the car.

imagine how terrible the lag would be trying to floor it from 4 cyl mode..

my worry is if you planned to keep the car than a couple years down the road think about mechanical issues. man it would be a pain because u would be driving one day try to floor it form 4 cyl and it doesn't work. gah the thought makes me cringe.

Ford has not said anything about DOD!!!! Topic is worthless.

As usual the new engine has been pushed back. 2010 or at latest 2011.
The 4.6L/5.4L family dies with the full size rear wheel drive "Panther" Platform.
It will be discontinued and the truck gets the new "Boss" 5.8L/6.2L engine.
Last I heard the 5.0L "Boss" engine is on again with unique 4V heads.

My guess is the High-Output 2009 Harley Truck that introduces the new "Boss" will have the Mustang DOHC heads on the 6.2L Engine. Ford has already announced the Mustang will get a Ecoboost Turbo V6 in the upcoming years. Their even putting it in the pickup in 2010.

The DOD in the Hemi works just fine. No lag that I can detect.

that all sounds great! But i'm curious where you got your info??? its parallels other info i've seen floating around message boards but haven't seen anything from even a remotely reliable source.

please tell!
